Agroforestry: A review of its importance, problems and prospects in crop production
Ratarstvo i povrtarstvo
Currently, the whole world is confronted with a geometric increase in the human population without a corresponding increase in the agricultural land resource to meet the human demands for food and clothing which are primarily sourced from agricultural industry. Therefore, it is needful for every country to search the importance of agroforestry and make haste to adopt it as it is the only option and panacea with which to combat the world ever increasing human population with limited and dwindling agricultural land resource. Agroforestry is more intentional, intensive, interactive and integrated than agriculture per se. Improved agro-forestry practice is eco-friendly, job creative and lucrative. It also promotes wider biodiversity and high yields of crops and livestock through proper soil management. Agroforestry is a multidisciplinary science encompassing agronomy, physiology, horticulture, apiculture, soil management, ecology, agrisilviculture, silvopasture, agrosilvopasture, and ap...
Agroforestry is the need of the day in India
International Journal of Scientific Research in Engineering and Management (IJSREM), 2019
The apparent high potential of agroforestry systems are its applicability to control soil erosion, soil improvement, creating congenial and conducive microclimate for tree and understory crops and reduction in the accumulation of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. Agroforestry has generated rather high levels of enthusiasm in recent years concerning with rain fed land use and sustainable resource management system. Therefore, the agroforestry should be considered as a dynamic, ecologically based natural resource management system that can sustain small holder production through the integration of trees in farm and/or in rangelands for increased social, economical and environmental benefits. An alternative land use system has to be evolved to fulfilment of needs of escalating population and solve the land and climatic degradation. The agroforestry practice is the answer to release the pressure on land up to some extent. Agroforestry is a valuable and viable tool for increasing the tree cover as well as to meet the demand for wood and food.Coming to recent times, the increasing pressure on land as well as on forests, rising demand for fuel and fodder and finally the requirement of timber for multifarious purpose have reinforced, as never before, the absolute and inseparable nexus between agriculture and forestry. For his survival, man has to ensure optimum use of agriculture, grasslands, forests and aquatic bodies, including oceans. Of these, the combination of first three systems i.e. Agrisilviculture, Silvopastoral and Agrosilvopastoral are covered under agroforestry.
Agroforestry: A Way Forward for Sustainable Development
Understanding the role of agroforestry in present agricultural practices in subject to increase in production as well as its beneficial contribution towards environment and income. As climate change, soil degradation, water scarcity and increase in price of agricultural raw materials leads agricultural more crucial butwhen agroforestry practices came into existence, the productivity and sustainability increase. Increase in population and its effect towards land-use competition welcomes agroforestry in revolution basis. This practice relies more on sustainability with low input and diversified income. Agroforestry is considered as smart way of farming which fulfill various aspects for farmers and environment. It helps mostly the small scale land holders to satisfy their economical needs along with food security. After analysis of many research paper it is found that this system have many components with different key elements. The adoptation of this practice is influenced by several characteristics of that particular area. However there are many benefits in practicing agroforestry, they are crucial in initial stages in field landscape designing. After detailed study of many research works, this review paper gives overall outline of contribution of agroforestry in farm diversification and income, food security, role in environment etc. now agroforestry is playing important role in selfresilience, full filling basic needs with socioeconomic and environmental benefits.
Agroforestry: Theory and Practices, 2014
Agroforestry is a system of land management which seems to be suitable for these ecologically brittle areas. It combines the protective characteristics of forestry with the productive attributes of both forestry and agriculture. Agroforestry is a new name for the old practice of growing trees on farmland. Farmers have been practicing agroforestry for thousands of years by combining trees with crops or animals. When land is scarce or when soil has a low fertility or is sensitive to erosion, agroforestry techniques offer considerable benefits for long term agricultural sustainability. Agroforestry can help to make small farms more productive by increasing family income. Achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) has been the prime importance of all international agenda. A clear vision is evolving that articulates how agroforestry research and development can contribute materially to achieve these goals and aspirations. By combining the strengths of agriculture and forestry, agroforestry opens up promising new prospects for the future of rural communities. Agroforestry is gaining momentum at a time when global community is increasingly demanding sustainable natural resource management and environmental friendly development approaches. Landscape enhancement, integrated land use management and sustainable development are all areas in which agroforestry can make a positive contribution. Agroforestry takes several forms and is attracting growing interest in global context from local, regional and international stakeholders, who are incorporating agroforestry activities in their land management and development projects, viewing it as a concrete tool for the sustainable development of rural land resources.
Perspectives of agroforestry: Present and future facets
In order to stabilize forest degradation, the most important tasks is to systematically understand the intensive farming systems. Hence the farming arrangement is utmost criterion for farming practices. It is important to note that imitation of natural farming ecosystems have to be advanced for the sustainable development of agriculture. Since agroforests are stereotypically less diverse than native forest, but they support a substantial number of plant and animal species. Agroforestry can ultimately usurp increased productivity, social outcomes, economic benefits, and in providing of ecological goods and services. So the uplipment of ecosystem sustainability can be further improved through right policies that promote agroforestry that can increase carbon sequestration in agro-ecosystems, thereby providing climate change mitigation assistances. Thus, agroforestry if properly developed, have the potential to improve socioeconomically more sustainable and make the landscape more better.
Agroforestry for Sustainable Rural Livelihood : A Review
Adequate and sustainable access to income and resources such as-adequate access to food, potable water, health facilities, and education to meet basic needs is livelihood. Sustaining livelihood is most serious challenge faced by policy and decision-makers in current scenario. In this context land-use options that sustain livelihood security and reduce vulnerability to climate and environmental change are necessary. Agroforestry can play a major role in bringing the desired level of diversification along with sustainability. Agroforestry has the potential to provide food security and help to poverty reduction along with its contribution to environment security viz. soil conservation, carbon sequestration are highly important. Traditional farming and their management such as agro-forestry practices may potentially provide options to enhance livelihoods through simultaneous production of food, fodder and firewood as well as reduce of the impact of climate change.
Impact of Agroforestry Systems: A Review
Asian Journal of Microbiology, Biotechnology and Environmental Sciences
Agroforestry is a collective name of all agricultural processes related to the scientificmanagement of land that increases overall production under different manners. The security of our natural resources is decreasing every day, these processes will increase the pressure on natural forests andagriculture. We are staying on the stage where we have to take a hard decision to conserve our naturalresources and their sustainability. In this context, agroforestry makes sure a scientific solution to all theseproblems which provide a vast series of good public services. Under this review paper, we discussed variousenvironmental services and conclude that the incorporation of native tree species on farmland can diversifies the farm income and promote maximum use of land. While, Nutrient pumping is one of the best intangibleenvironmental services of the agroforestry system in which productivity of land can be utilized sharply, atthe same time agroforestry boosts the soil health in the course...

Agroforestry: An Approach for Food Security
Abstract: Periodic unavailability of farm inputs, degradation of natural resources and population explosion problems are the main causes of food insecurity. Intensive agricultural practices required to meet food requirements of increasing human population, led to large scale resource degradation. The unavailability of natural resources, high costs and periodic limited availability of mineral fertilizers and other farm inputs have reduced the farm production. The past approaches in agriculture production have failed to reduce food insecurity and sustainability in production. Agroforestry science, and its application by smallholders throughout the tropics, have a potential and played an important role in achieving sustainability in farm productivity. The incorporation of a diverse variety of trees into agricultural systems can increase crop productivity and incomes of smallholding farmers through diverse products viz., edible flowers, fruits and fodder. The well managed multipurpose tree species on farm benefits in the case of efficient use of natural resources enhance the overall (biomass) productivity, improvement in soil fertility, soil conservation and nutrient cycling, micro-climate amelioration, carbon sequestration, bio-drainage, bioenergy and bio-fuel production etc. Nowadays farmers, researchers, policy makers are interested in agroforestry for its ability to contribute in meeting deficit of agricultural and tree products with socio-economic and environmental benefits. Key Words: Farm productivity, sustainability, agroforestry, livelihood security

Agroforestry helpful for maintaining the environmental a balance between soil and degradation of hazardous chemicals. Different ecological factors also playing important role in agricultural forestry. Agroforestry has multidimensional approaches for growing the new varieties of plants, cross breeding, and genetic exchange by developing the new varieties of trees. Agroforestry also playing important role in recycling of waste water through efficient treatment water plants. Cacao agroforestry systems are wieldy important in order to grow the specific number of pants growing the different varieties. Consuming of cacao at the optimum level can help with issues such as depression, stress, blood pressure and heart health. Sometimes, nature of soils able to regenerate into new trees. Poorly drained soils, excessive water or insufficient moisture can cause stunted growth and plant decline. Agroforestry strategies such as taungya system and silvopastoral system are reliable for growing the trees. Biofuel for large production of energy in industrials and commercial level by conserving the sustainable development.
