Introduction to the special issue on blended learning
2009
Abstract I invite you to consider the promise of blended learning as you explore the articles in this special issue of RCETJ which will be offered in two parts. This, the first of the two, focuses on blended learning at the class level. The next part, to be offered in the summer, will be primarily concerned with blended programs. Articles in the first part of the special issue are summarized below.
Blended Learning - Its Challenges and Future
Procedia - Social and Behavioral Sciences, 2013
Nowadays, the trend of e-learning is increasing day by day and one of the tools to implement this concept is through Blended Learning. This paper gives the overview of the concept of Blended Learning from different perspectives such as the Holistic Perspective, te Educational Perspective, the Pragmatic Perspective, the Corporate Training Perspective and the Chief Learning Officer (CLO) Perspective. It also describes the various blended learning strategies. This paper also discloses the methods used in Blended Learning such as the synchronous instructional method and the asynchronous instructional method, which will help the readers to select the best instructional method. Besides this, the paper also reveals the dimensions of the blended learning approach i.e. blending offline and online learning, self-paced blending and live blending, collaborative learning, and blending structured and unstructured learning. This paper also describes the areas where this technique is beneficial, along with the challenges faced by this technique such as technical Challenges, organizational challenges and instructional design challenges. Then the Blended Learning process is described in terms of its various advantages. Factors that promote successful blended learning are also mentioned in this paper. Finally, some recommendations are suggested for future research.
Blended Learning: A New Learning Paradigm in Education
RED'SHINE PUBLICATION, 2022
The modern world is changing at the fastest speed with the advancement of information and communication technology. In this advanced cyber world, the teaching-learning process is also changing fast with the blending of information technology with traditional methods. The face-to-face model of teaching and learning is now being combined with the online mode. Open resources of educational materials and technologies are being used to create online content, which is creating the opportunity to learn anything from anywhere at any time. This blended mode of F2F and online gives more scope to learners in both ways of time and space. Blended learning, in a true sense, provides the opportunity for lifelong learning. But to have this opportunity, one must have access to the required technical support, which is the biggest challenge in our country. In this paper, concepts, models, components, and challenges of blended learning are being discussed.
Learning Outcome and Challenges in Blended Learning
Shanlax International Journal of Arts, Science and Humanities, 2017
The general notion of technology in education is reflected in the design, preparation and other pedagogical materials for Educational Institutions. There are many advantages of using Information and Communication Technology in the pedagoguism process. Classroom innovative practices are becoming the centre of attention and solely replacing the traditional approaches because of futuristic demands and needs of higher education. Blended Learning is the integration of both traditional and novel teaching-learning processes, and has shifted the culture of teaching-learning from instructor-centred to becoming student-centred. Blended learning is one of the e-learning models integrating an online course and face to face classroom by optimizing the use of Information Communication Technologies as instructional media in order to enhance the teaching and learning experience for the students and teachers. The blended learning environment also offers the opportunity to use time in a more effective and flexible way by extending instruction time out of the class walls. Blended Learning gives students the opportunity to receive personal attention while retaining the much-needed (for some) control provided by the face to face classroom environment. In this paper, a discussion has been carried out about the capabilities, learning outcomes, and challenges in blended learning. Keywords: Blended Learning, New traditional Approach, Best of both worlds, instructional strategies, Teaching and Learning processes, Capabilities of Blended Learning, Two key Learning Experiences.
Blended Learning: An Innovative Approach
Universal Journal of Educational Research, 2017
Blended learning is an innovative concept that embraces the advantages of both traditional teaching in the classroom and ICT supported learning including both offline learning and online learning. It has scope for collaborative learning; constructive learning and computer assisted learning (CAI). Blended learning needs rigorous efforts, right attitude, handsome budget and highly motivated teachers and students for its successful implementation. As it incorporates diverse modes so it is complex and organizing it is a difficult task. The present paper discusses the concept of blended learning, its main features and prerequisite of its implementation. Scope of blended learning in Indian educational system is also discussed .The present paper also tries to explain that how blended learning is an approach that needs to be adopted.
A STUDY ON THE EFFECTIVENESS OF BLENDED LEARNING
The aim of the study was to investigate the effectiveness of blended learning in the study of business studies as related to the Learning Management System (LMS) in a University College. The study was conducted with a view to assess the effectiveness of blended learning that has become a buzz word in the academic environment. The study further tried to assess how the Learning Management System helps in this popularity of blended learning. A questionnaire with 27 (twenty seven) items was designed to evaluate the aspect of blended learning distributed to 34 students registered for Business Studies, while an online questionnaire with 18 (eighteen) items designed and surveyed by the Centre for Instructional and Technological Support (CITS) hosted online accessed by 180 students was used as secondary data to assess the way the LMS aids blended learning. Findings on how effective blended learning is in making students active learners in the study of business study showed that blended learning is very effective in accomplishing this goal. The students' attitude toward blended learning is positive i.e. they have a good perception of the concept. The learning management system definitely aids blended learning. Recommendations were made for future research.
A Review of Blended Learning for Education
ijsrp, 2018
The purpose of this study is to look at the literature review on Blended Learning. In accordance with the development of learning technology, pedagogy is also growing. Many countries through higher education and schools have implemented this Blended Learning pedagogy. Blended Learning is a combination of two teaching pedagogies which are traditional face to face and E-Learning. This paper also provides the breakdown of both modes of study to determine whether the learning is under Blended Learning or not. This study also states the Blended Learning characteristics to be observed by researchers. The main characteristics are listed as a guideline to practitioners in order to implement Blended Learning in educational practices.
Towards the Theory of Blended Learning
The purpose of this article is to develop a design theory of blended learning curriculum in ways of establishing a model for designing such a curriculum and a model for designing an activity in a blended learning curriculum as well as demonstrating how these models can be utilized in a curriculum design. It first attempts to define what the essence of blended learning is by drawing on definitions of previous studies. Then, it goes on to identify the characteristics and rationales of blended learning. Finally, it exemplifies the devised BLC activity model, which is supported by the BLC design model and the BLC process model.
