The next edition of the Permanent Seminar "Iberian Worlds and Early Globalization" of the PAI HUM 1000 group History of Globalization: negotiation violence and interculturality, will take place next Friday, June 18, 2021 at 18:00 hours (CEST) through the Zoom platform. The title of this meeting will be "Empire and intimacy". This session will delve into the multi-cultural intimate relationships that developed in the Yucatan Peninsula and the Isthmus of Panama during the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, with special attention to the contrast in the impact of the encomienda and the slave trade of different origins. We will seek to connect micro analysis with macro perspectives to invite the analysis of global intertwinings, as well as to make comparisons with other regions where cultural exchange impacted families, households and institutions, thus modulating early globalization processes. The session will be moderated by João Vicente Melo, member of the PAI-HUM 1000 group, and will feature the following presentations: Hannah R. Abrahamson (Emory University): «Domestic Personal Service: a Gendered Institution in Sixteenth-Century Yucatan, Mexico» Bethany Aram (Universidad Pablo de Olavide): «Orígenes, género y supervivencia en el nexo panameño, 1513-1671» David Wheat (Michigan State University): Comentario/Commentary The session will be accessible via the following link to Zoom or by entering the following credentials: MEETING ID: 355 187 9965 ACCESS CODE: 412788 More information on the web of Grupo PAI HUM-1000 Historia de la Globalización: violencia, negociación e interculturalidad.
