An Overview and Study of Security Issues & Challenges in Mobile Ad-hoc Networks (MANET
Mobile ad-hoc network (MANET) is one of the most promising fields for research and development of wireless network. As the popularity of mobile device and wireless networks significantly increased over the past years, wireless ad-hoc networks has now become one of the most vibrant and active field of communication and networks. Due to severe challenges, the special features of MANET bring this technology great opportunistic together. This paper describes the fundamental problems of ad hoc network by giving its related research background including the concept, features, status, and vulnerabilities of MANET. This paper presents an overview and the study of the routing protocols. Also include the several challenging issues, emerging application and the future trends of MANET.

Networks formed for specific applications are called ad-hoc networks. In an ad-hoc model wireless devices can communicate with each other without the need of any central entity. All the devices that are in range of each other can discover and communicate to each other. Ad-hoc networks are flexible in every way, means they can be constructed, partitioned or merged with any other of the type on the go. In ad-hoc network, nodes are mobile in nature and uses wireless communication. In this case these are called as Mobile Ad-hoc Network (MANET). For these networks to find peer-to-peer path between working nodes, several protocols have been proposed. These routing protocols are supine to attack by the malicious nodes. The need of time is to detect and prevent the attacks caused by the malicious nodes without abruption in network services. The origin of Mobile ad hoc network (MANET) was started in 1970 as packet radio network (PRNET), later on different researches were made on it in different ages. MANET works under no fixed infrastructure in which every node works likes a router that stores and forwards packet to final destination. Due to its dynamic topology, MANET can be created anywhere, anytime. As there are limited resources in MANET so it faces many problems such as security, limited bandwidth, range and power constraints. Due to this, many new routing protocols are proposed. This article examines different techniques to manage congestion control, security issues, different layers attacks, routing protocols and challenges that are faced by MANET.

Mobile ad hoc networks (MANET) are becoming increasingly popular wireless networking model in various areas of technology usage from everyday to specific military purposes. Security in ad hoc networks is a key concern in order to provide protected communication between mobile nodes in an unknown and heterogeneous environment. The main challenge of MANETs is their vulnerability to security attacks and how to operate securely and efficiently while preserving its own resources. This paper discuss the most common type of attack on MANET and their security challenges. There are a lot of existing solutions in this field which propose increasing of MANETs security by new protocol design, evaluate existing protocols and their abilities, propose new routing protocols, find solutions and prevention measures for existing attacks or improving specific characteristics of MANET such as the packet drop rate, the overhead, end-to-end packet delays, network throughput etc.This paper attempts to provide an overview of MANET security challenges The paper finishing by presenting current and possible solutions as a problems requiring for further research in the fuure.

Mobile Ad hoc Networks are basically an infrastructure less network of transportable devices having wireless communication capabilities. In such networks, nodes can join at any time and at any place dynamically. Mobile nodes can simultaneously act as an intermediate router as well as source or destination. Nodes can move in random motion, hence network topology changes dynamically. This makes such networks an autonomous system of mobile nodes having centralized administration. In MANETs each node has limited transmission range so packets are forwarded from source node to destination node in a network with the help of multi routing. With the transmission of packets over wireless networks there are many issues and challenges that are encountered. The issue of security of data has been considered as the main parameter in this paper.
