World Practices of STEM Education Implementation: Current Problems and Results
International Journal of Research in E-learning
The term “STEM education” has been clarified. It is well-founded that STEM education is a learning process that is based on interdisciplinary and practical orientation and provides the formation of skills to acquire theoretical knowledge, and master scientific methods for their use in solving specific practical tasks (not only in professional activities). A quantitative analysis of the results of the implementation of STEM education, presented in scientific publications, was carried out. A small percentage of publications dedicated to STEM education have been found. It has been established that in countries with developed economies, there are significantly more published scientific results regarding the implementation of STEM education. Practical cases of the implementation of STEM education in Ukraine and the world are highlighted. Among these are the organization of STEM education through solving problem situations in field conditions; basing classes on solving practical tasks in...
Challenges and issues of STEM education
Advances in Mobile Learning Educational Research, 2021
Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, abbreviated as STEM is a very promising field and its popularity is increasing due to its benefits in the modern world of globalization and modernization. Science and mathematics are basics of the technological developments going on in the world. In order to continue with these developments, the children should be motivated to learn STEM from early school days. The minds of small kids are like a sponge and they are able to grasp everything quickly. STEM education should be encouraged from the childhood so that children like it and continue with it for higher education. STEM Education as a Teaching Method for the Development of XXI Century Competencies
2022
This research was carried out at Don Bosco School in the department of Villavicencio, where the contribution of STEM education to the development of competencies and skills of 21st century citizens is observed, studied and evaluated. To this end, a curricular proposal based on interdisciplinarity is presented, applying Project-Based and Problem-Based Learning in the subjects of Science (Physics), Technology, and Mathematics with tenth-grade students. The results show the characterization of the students, the processes of curricular integration in knowledge and soft skills. It can be evidenced that, according to the pedagogical model of the institution, tenth-grade students have a social and humanistic thinking, in the sense that some of them were concerned about the social context and oriented towards solving problems in their environment. After reviewing the curricular planning documents, clear guidelines on the conceptual model of the institution are appreciated. However, it is necessary to diversify the technological component to train competent citizens with a view to a generation immersed in the 21st century.
The Role of Stem Education in Preparing Students for the Workforce
2023
Purpose: This research aims to study the essence and peculiarities of STEM education and identify the critical elements of embedding this mechanism in the learning process in the world and Azerbaijan. Research Methods: Study of literature and other sources of information; text analysis; formulation of conclusions. Results: The STEM education movement is clearly impacting the international scene. However, serious doubts persist about its foundations, nature, and implementation, which should make us reflect on the danger that it may become an innovation that can be diluted. Here we have: (1) characterized those models of STEM education proposed by educational research; (2) provided a valid STEM education model based on a valid model of STEM education that is supported by the research. Contribution to literature: The study contributes to the current research literature by systematizing the existing evidence and grouping the reasons for the importance of STEM education according to specific indicators and criteria. The study also presents a set of practical recommendations to all interested educational institutions on how to organize the process of STEM education for its effectiveness, taking into account all previous mistakes made by the world experience.

This study aims to reveal the effect of the STEM approach on 21st-century skills of middle school students and to determine their experiences about STEM. This application, which lasted 6 weeks with 7th-grade students, was realized with 35 students. In the study, by using the explanatory mixed-method, firstly, quantitative data was taken and qualitative data were tried to be explained. In the first stage of the study, the pre-test and post-test results were examined in the group by using a dependent group t-test. "Multidimensional 21st Century Skills Scale" was used as a pre-test and post-test tool. In the second stage of the study, student experiences for STEM applications were revealed using the semi-structured interview form, which is one of the qualitative data collection methods. In the findings of the study, it was seen in the results of the analysis that the STEM approach contributed positively to 21st-century skills. Besides, a significant difference was observed between the pre-test and post-test in five sub-dimensions in the scale. However, in the results of the interviews, it was stated that the students were enjoyable to study with STEM, increased communication within the group, and encouraged the student to research and think. It was also observed that some students had difficulties during the application, complained about the lack of time, and had difficulty in designing.
