An Overview of Image Steganography using LSB Technique
International Journal
Steganography is the art of hiding the fact that communication is taking place, by hiding information in other information. Many different carrier file formats can be used, but digital images are the most popular because of their frequency on the Internet. For hiding secret information in images, there exists a large variety of steganographic techniques some are more complex than others and all of them have respective strong and weak points. This paper intends to give an overview of image steganography, its uses and techniques. For a more secure approach, this paper encrypts the message using secret key and then sends it to the receiver. The receiver then decrypts the message to get the original one. The rapid development of data transfer through internet made it easier to send the data accurate and faster to the destination. This paper deals with the algorithm based on hiding a large amount of data (image, audio, text) file into color BMP image. This project gives a brief idea about the image steganographic approach that make use of Least Significant Bit(LSB) algorithm for embedding the data into the bitmap image(.bmp) which is implemented through the JDK 1.5.0_07 environment. The Least Significant Bit (LSB) embedding technique suggests that data can be hidden in the least significant bits of the cover image and the human eye would be unable to notice the hidden image in the cover file.
Design and Implementation of a Steganographic System using the Least Significant Bit Algorithm
African Journal of Computing & ICT, 2019
Secure data transmission over communication channels has been a critical issue since the beginning of the digital era. Due to advances in ICT, most of information is kept electronically. Consequently, the security of information has become a fundamental issue. Besides cryptography, steganography can be employed to secure information. Steganography is similar but adds another dimension to Cryptography. In cryptography, an intruder is normally aware that data is being communicated, because they can see the coded/scrambled message while in steganography, an unintended recipient or an intruder is unaware of the fact that observed data contains hidden information. In this method, people not only want to protect the secrecy of an information by concealing it, but they also want to make sure any unauthorized person gets no evidence that the information even exists. An example is invisible watermarking; although, this technique is not new, its application has been exploited in various information security technologies. This paper shows the design and implementation of a software system that uses the new image steganographic approach. This approach makes use of Least Significant Bit (LSB) algorithm and is implemented through the Microsoft.NET framework. This software is applied in embedding data into a bit map image (.bmp).
Evaluation of LSB Based Image Steganography Technique for various File Formats

Steganography is derived from the Greek word steganos which literally means “Covered” and graphy means “Writing”, i.e. covered writing. Steganography is the art and science of hiding messages in such a way that no one apart from sender and receiver identify the message. The paper describes the steganalysis technique for the detection of secret message in the image. The strong and weak point of this technique is mentioned briefly. Steganography function is used to hide a secret message in any media such as text, image, audio and video. There are many algorithms used for hiding the information. One of the simplest and best known techniques is Least Significant Bit (LSB). This paper focuses on image Steganography and hiding the message in the Least Significant Bit (LSB) method. We also discuss the LSB method used for various file formats. KeywordsCryptography, Steganography, Steganalysis, LSB (Least Significant Bit), GIF, PNG, BMP.
A Comprehensive Image Steganography Tool using LSB Scheme
International Journal of Image, Graphics and Signal Processing, 2015
As a consequence of the fact, transmitting data has been fast and easy these days due to the development of the Internet. Where internet is the most important medium for confidential and non-confidential communications. Security is the major matter for these communications and steganography is the art of hiding and transmitting secret messages through carriers without being exposed. This paper presents a secured model for communication using image steganography. The main concern is to create a Java-based tool called IMStego that hides information in images using Least Significant Bit (LSB) algorithm (1-LSB) and modified Least Significant one Bit algorithm, i.e. Least Significant 2 Bits algorithm (2-LSB). IMStego is a more comprehensive security utility where it provides user-friendly functionality with interactive graphical user interface and integrated navigation capabilities. It provides the user with two operations, which are hiding secret data into images and extracting hidden data from images using 1-LSB or 2-LSB algorithm. IMStego tool hides secrete information in color static images with formats BMP and PNG.
Information Security through an Improved Image Steganography Algorithm
Journal of Information Technology, 2017
Steganography is the data hiding technique which allows hiding secret message or image within a larger image or message such that the hidden message or an image is undetectable. It is a very useful method for secret information transmission. This research proposed security of information through an image hiding steganographic method, of hiding an image within a cover image. This steganographic method aims to minimize the visually obvious and numerical differences between the cover image and a stego image with increase in the size of the payload. The proposed improved algorithm uses the binary codes which is the binary representation of pixels inside the image. This algorithm make use of improved least significant bit (LSB) technique, which is a popular technique in steganography ,in which least significant bits of cover are altered by secret data bits. The proposed method integrates randomization algorithm which improve the security of LSB scheme. The bits of the secret image ar...
Now a days, internet becomes major channel for communicating information one place to other such as text, image, audio, video data. One of the most important factors of information technology and communication has been the security of the information. For security purpose the concept of Steganography is being used. Image Steganography is a technique in which information can embeded secretly by hiding through an image. For these purpose we used Data compression, it's is a basic need for transmission of data through the internet. There are two methods transmitting the data. they are lossy and lossless compression methods. This paper presents an existing approach of image steganography using Least Significant Bit (LSB) algorithm and Discrete Cosine transform (DCT) algorithm is to be used to Compressed the images. LSB method mainly focused on adaptiveness of LSB's replacement and pixel adjustment for improving the capacity of hiding data. And the jpeg standard compresion DCT algorithum based on lossy technique for image compression.
LSB Based Image Steganography for Information Security System
International Journal of Trend in Scientific Research and Development, 2018
Information hiding in a cover file is one of the most modernized and effective ways for transferring secret message from sender to receiver over the communication channel. There are many steganographic techniques for hiding secret message in image, text, audio, video and so on. Image Steganography is also one of the common methods used for hiding the information in the cover image. In this research work, the secret message is hidden in a cover image file using image steganography. LSB is very efficient algorithm used to embed the information in a cover file. The LSB based image steganography with various file sizes is analyzed and illustrated their results. Bitmap (*.bmp) image is used as a cover image file to implement the proposed system. The detail Least Significant Bit (LSB) based image steganography is introduced. In this paper, the new embedding algorithm and extracting algorithm are presented. While embedding the secret message in a cover image file, the starting embedded pixel is chosen according to public shared key between sender and receiver. The original cover image and embedded image with secret message are analyzed with PSNR values and SNR values to achieve security. The resulting embedded image shows the acceptable PSNR and SNR values while comparing with the original cover image. The proposed system can help the information exchanging system over communication media.

The development of information technology today, makes it easier for perpetrators of computer crime, by abusing technology to support its activities, where their activities significantly disrupt someone's privacy. In this paper the insertion of text messages with the least significant bit method. Therefore the administrator needs a system or application that is safe so that it can make it difficult for computer criminals to carry out their activities, and help technology users regarding securing the accessed data bit, which is expected to increase the security of a secret text message. To increase the security of the data to be stored, the data stored is embedded in other media. Least Significant Bit is one method that can be used to hide confidential data on images or media. With this method, the confidentiality of information will be more secure.
Survey on Image Steganography and its Techniques
International Journal of Engineering and Technology
In present Scenario of the world, Internet has almost reached to every aspect of our lives. Due to this, most of the information sharing and communication is carried out using web. With such rapid development of Internet technology, a big issue arises of unauthorized access to confidential data, which leads to utmost need of information security while transmission. Cryptography and Steganography are two of the popular techniques used for secure transmission. Steganography is more reliable over cryptography as it embeds secret data within some cover material. Unlike cryptography, Steganography is not for keeping message hidden from intruders but it does not allow anyone to know that hidden information even exist in communicated material, as the transmitted material looks like any normal message which seem to be of no use for intruders. Although, Steganography covers many types of covers to hide data like text, image, audio, video and protocols but recent developments focuses on Image Steganography due to its large data hiding capacity and difficult identification, also due to their greater scope and bulk sharing within social networks. A large number of techniques are available to hide secret data within digital images such as LSB, ISB, and MLSB etc. In this paper, a detailed review will be presented on Image Steganography and also different data hiding and security techniques using digital images with their scope and features.
