"IMPLEMENTATION OF LCA FOR A-PUMP ASSEMBLY LINE" (original) (raw)

An optimal level of autonomation is essential to ensure a continuous improvement in quality and productivity along with the reduction of costs. This paper applies Low Cost Automation (LCA) technique for minimizing human intervention and to increase productivity. Manual assembly is characterized by high labour cost and low capital cost while the automated assembly has low labour cost but high capital cost due to the use of expensive automation equipments. Recent advancement of automation technology has led to higher productivity at low cost which has increased the relevance of automation in manufacturing sector. This switch from normal assembly to automated assembly is essentially characterized by a trade-off between high labour costs and capital costs. Despite the advent of technology and the recent studies in this field, a full-fledged automated system is not necessarily the most viable option with regard to cost, quality and productivity. On the other hand, a completely manual system is fraught with similar drawbacks. Thus, the paper emphasizes the effect of LCA for the A-PUMP assembly line in order to critically analyse various operations using lean principles and LCA in order to reduce human interference and enhance effectiveness and efficiency of the assembly line.
