Abstract

Wavelets have shown to be an indispensable tool for a scale{ sensitive representation and analysis of spatial or temporal data. In this chapter we illustrate the basic mathematical background for wavelets as well as fast algorithms for concrete multivariate wavelet constructions on bounded domains. Finally, we will show an application of wavelets to analysis and compression of precipitation data.
