The Influence of English Movie in Improving Students’ Speaking Skill

This research was conducted to find out the relationship between English movie and students’ speaking skill. The purpose of this research is to investigate the influence of English movie in improving students’ speaking skill. In this research, researchers used a quantitative approach by implementing experimental research. In its implementation, researchers carried out pre-test and post test to collect data through the value obtained by students. In addition, to strengthening the results of the research, researchers collected data by distributing questionnaires with Likert scale to add quantitative data in this research. The sample in this research were 30 students from class IX-11b in SMP Negeri 2 Pematangsiantar. Based on the results of the research, researchers can conclude that English movie has good impacts and has good influences in improving students’ speaking skills. Movie as a Helper for Students' Pronunciation in Speaking Skill Class

This research aims to deliver how a movie can help students with their pronunciation in English speaking skill. Speaking is one of English skill that has an important role. While speaking, there is a certain aspect that has to be paid attention by people. Pronunciation is an aspect that important in speaking skill. Pronunciation takes a significant role in speaking because it shows anything while someone speaks and other people understanding based on how someone pronounces a word. This study is aimed for students who learn the English language as a foreign language (EFL) to drive the importance this area. With qualitative method, this study hopes to avoid people from misunderstanding what non-English native speakers say. This study's discussion drives the urgency to teach speaking with the learning activities designed as well as possible to address pronunciation. This study also recommends parties in educational sector to support the use of various teaching media such as videos pictures, realia, television, but particularly movies. This is because a movie is one of the media that can immensely help student's speaking ability as they actively engage and have fun in imitating the audiovisual feed they receive.
Using English Movie to Enhance Students Interest in Speaking Skill at Sman 1 Galis Pamekasan

English movie is one of the media for teaching learning process that can make the students interested to the lesson and also evoke their imagination. The students have idea to explore in their mind and they will be able to convey it in speaking English. This study aimed at explaining the implementation of using English movies to enhance speaking skills. The subject of this classroom action research was tenth-grade SMAN 1 Galis Pamekasan Madura. The data collection techniques were observation, interview, pre-test and post-test. The research findings showed that English movie was suitable to be used in speaking teaching-learning process. Based on the results of this study, it is recommended that English movies should be used as media to enhance the students's speaking skills.

Improving Speaking Ability by Using Short Movies at Eleventh Grade Students of Sma Negeri 5 Palu

This research focused on the application of short movies as a media in improving speaking ability at eleventh grade students of SMA Negeri 5 Palu. The researcher applied quasi experimental research design which involved two classes of students, they were experimental class and control class. The instruments of data collection were pretest and posttest. The pretest was used to measure prior knowledge of the students and the posttest was used to measure the development of the students’ knowledge after the treatment. The t-test was analyzed to compare the mean scores of both classes. There is a significant difference score of the experimental class (1940) and the control class (1490). The level of significance was set up at 0.05 with 58 degree of freedom (df=29+31-2=58). The result of data analysis indicates that tcounted(6.84) is higher than ttable (2.002). The Correlation between Students' Habit in Watching English Movies and Their Speaking Skill

The purpose of this research was to investigate the correlation between students' habit in watching English movies and their speaking skill at the English Education Department Students of Universitas Muhammadiyah Bulukumba. The research design was correlational Research. The data were gathered used two instrument, they were questionnaire and speaking test. The data analysis was using Pearson Product Moment Correlation. The result showed that the mean score of the students' questionnaire was 76,92. It meant that most of the students had a good habit in watching English movies. The mean score of students' speaking test was 60,8. It meant that most of students had enough speaking skill. The Pearson Product Moment Correlation result was 0,122. It could be said that rxy that was 0,122 was lower than rtable in the level 5%. That result indicated that there was no correlation between students' habit in watching English movies and their speaking skill.

Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian eksperimental yang bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh penggunaan film berbahasa Inggris dalam pengembangan kemampuan berbicara siswa kelas delapan di SMP Negeri 20 Jakarta. Untuk mencapai tujuan tersebut, penelitian ini dilakukan dalam dua kelas. Setiap kelas terdiri dari 35 siswa. Kelompok eksperimen (VIIIA) diajarkan menggunakan film Inggris dan kelompok kontrol (VIIIB) diajarkan menggunakan metode tradisional. Kelas diadakan dua kali seminggu dan penelitian dilakukan selama empat minggu. Pre-test dan post-test digunakan untuk mengumpulkan data. Baik pre-test maupun post-test diberikan dalam dua kelas. Analisis data kuantitatif dilakukan dengan perangkat lunak SPSS 24.0, tes ini digunakan untuk menganalisis data. The aim of the study was to find out English major students' perceptions towards watching English movies to develop listening skill and speaking skill. This study was conducted at one university in North Sulawesi, specifically on the students who took Listening and Speaking class. The instrument used in the data collection was a questionnaire that consists of three parts for finding out the background of the respondents, English movie watching perceptions, and level agreement towards English movies. The data were analyzed using Microsoft Excel and shown in tables of frequency, percentage and mean. The findings indicated that English major students are aware that they can improve their listening skill by watching English movies. Subtitles also can help respondents to understand conversation in the movies, and English movies are believed to be more effective than other media as teaching tools. English major students also believe that they can improve their speaking skill by watching English movies. Students think watching English movies has more direct influence to listening skill compared to speaking skill. Future studies are recommended to conduct interviews of students to gain more information or arrange a test of student listening and speaking skills. Other interesting topics would be to study further about whether English subtitles or Indonesian subtitles is more effective as learning media, and also which movie genre is more effective in English skills development.

The aim of the study is to determine the effects of using TV series to improve EFL students' listening achievement levels in English. Another aim of the study was to reveal the perceptions of EFL students about the use of TV series in English to improve their listening proficiency. To this end, the study was conducted as a mix-method study that includes 30 EFL students. The participants of the study were chosen via convenience sampling. The data of the study were collected through pre-and post-achievement tests, a questionnaire and semi-structured interviews. While the data acquired via pre and post-tests and questionnaires were analyzed by using SPSS 25 Statistical Package, the data obtained through semi-structured interviews were examined by adopting a categorical-content analysis approach. The study results uncovered that the use of English TV series improved EFL students' listening achievement levels. It was also revealed the fact that EFL students thought that watching TV series contributed to their success in the classroom, and they believed that watching TV series in English improved their listening comprehension. The results of the study also showed that TV series could catch the learners' interest, and they can positively affect their motivation to improve their listening proficiency.
