Sustainable Development and Its Challenges in the Context of Global Economy
Zero Waste Management and Circular Economy, 2021
The environment has been ravaged and overexploited by human beings almost from the dawn of civilization. However, no sooner that in the course of the industrial revolution did the extensive exploitation of the Earth 's resources, combined connected with the destruction of nature on a really great scale being a side-effect of economic activities, commence. Along with the globalization process, and the spread of the business philosophy of ''profit at any cost'', the situation was becoming ever more serious. This as well as many ecological disasters caused by human activity made mankind aware of the ''shape of dangers to come'' and the need to counteract the degradation of the environment, which gave rise to various environment protection concepts. Among them, ''sustainable development'', offering a well-balanced approach to the relationship between mankind and the environment, plays an essential role. Sustainable development, which, meanwhile, has become a sui generis universal doctrine, is based upon three main pillars: social inclusion, economic growth and environment protection. According to the majority of public opinion, it is an adequate response to many contemporary challenges. However, it is not easy to implement its goals nowadays as there are many challenges, most of which are connected with the effects of catastrophes connected with climate changes, the scarcity of resources, soil and air contamination, social inequalities, political tensions, at times leading to wars, or business' selfish attitudes and nationalistic ''sacro egoismo''. To be effective, sustainable development must cover several key areas of mankind activity such as education, economy or health care. Decision-makers like entrepreneurs and managers can play an important role in this endeavour. The purpose of this article is to holistically present the possibilities of implementing sustainable development concept in the context of relevant previous experiences and the current threats. This article fills the existing gap in research evidenced by the content of the literature of the subject. Methodology approach: The specificity of this research rendered it necessary to use the documentary research method and historical research method. Social implications: In the area of application, this article presents the conclusions resulting from it having become possible to sustainable development concept as well as possible difficulties in this respect. In this context, the role of human consciousness in finding the best solutions to the difficulties faced by all the stakeholders of implementing sustainable development concept was emphasized.
Sustainable Development and the Changes in the Modern Economic and Social Life.pdf
EUROPEAN JOURNAL OF ECONOMICS AND BUSINESS STUDIES, 2016
In the contemporary world, with its high technologies, constantly developing and improving production processes and globalization, the issue of sustainable development is present in the agenda of the whole world. Moreover, the international business in all its variety of forms and operations, is an integral part of the economic life of each country. It contributes to the increase of the gross domestic product of developed countries and for the economic progress of developing countries. In this context, what becomes important is not only achieving economic growth, but also the ways it is achieved. That’s where the concept of sustainable development comes. The ideas of sustainable development, getting economic growth with care for the environment, reaching higher living standard while protecting the natural resources are extremely popular at the beginning of this century, when environmental disasters and economic crises caused by the scarcity of certain resources are a reality and are not limited to one specific country but affect the whole world. These problems inevitably lead to changes in the economic life, as it has to respond to the need of finding a new approach to achieve economic prosperity. Such changes in the economic and social life, for example, are the emergence of new economic sectors such as eco-manufacturing, bio-products, provision of environmental services, changes in some state policies such as initiating green procurement, green public-private partnership, green supply chains etc. This article is dedicated to revealing some of these changes which result from the current trend for sustainable economic development.
THE CONCEPT AND PRINCIPLES OF SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT
Climate Change and Sustainable Development, 2011
Sustainable development (SD) is one of the leading issues in the contemporary development discourse. It is an approach to development that takes the environmental dimension and which owes its origin to various debates and environmental movements in 1970s and 1980s regarding the connection between environment and economic development. The approach seeks to reconcile human needs and the capacity of the environment to cope with the consequences of the economic system so that these needs can be met not only in the present, but also for future generations. It holds that wealth of nations does not rest solely on its economic wealth but also on the smooth development and protection of environmental resources. The major principle of the concept is that the natural resources should be used in a manner which does not eliminate or degrade them, or otherwise diminish their usefulness for future generations. However, the concept has been criticized as being vague, oxymoron, unattainable which is introduced by developed countries to protect capitalism and impede development of other countries. Others believed that the implementation of sustainable development would mean a reversion to pre-modern life styles. This paper, therefore, attempts to examine the concept of sustainable development, its principles, and efforts made by the international community to ensure its realisation and also presents some of the arguments against the concept.

SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT: AN ANALYSIS
Abstract:- Sustainable development firstly came in united nation conference on environment and development in Rio de Janeiro 1992. Sustainable development means sustain the development as long as we do. We all know that resources on Earth are scarce if we continue exploiting all these resources we lost all them. There are many resources that are at their last stage. According to a report of Business Standard (2015) if we continue use resources at current rate we lost oil in 53 years, natural gas in 54 years, and coal in 110 years. We have to think what we do after this. All countries have to work together for it. Digitalization is also important for us to achieve the Sustainable Development. All resources are scarce so we have to use them very wisely and digitalization helps us on this. In this paper we briefly find out what are the main challenges in our way and if we overcame to these entire problem what we got. If we saw economic way the loss of all those resources mainly harm the underdevelopment counties like India. How Sustainable Development effect positively our growth? We go for new way of energy and other thing that will make many new things that boost the economy. Schumpeter innovation model also apply here when innovation take place. This paper finds out all possible solution for the sustainable development. Key Word: Inclusive Development, Environmental Degradation, Globalization, Intellectual Property Rights.
Critical Approaches to the Concept of Sustainable Development
It has been observed that while living in harmony with nature on earth until the industrial revolution, with the industrial production and consumption society formed after the industrial revolution, humanity has started to dominate nature more and the damage caused to nature has increased. Economic growth, contrary to expectations, increasing inequality in the distribution of income, the impoverishment of the broad masses of the natural environment in the emergence of problems such as destruction of natural resources, growth and development of the concept of sustainable development has revealed the new concept. Sustainable development suggests that both economic development can continue and the ecological system can be protected; the contradiction between the environment and development will disappear. The concept of sustainable development has been considered to be able to solve many country problems since its first appearance, and has been applied to many fields such as economics, politics, the environment and social culture. In fact, there are many aspects of the concept of sustainable development that are open to criticism. The aim of this study is to address the criticisms brought to the concept with a collective perspective. For this purpose, the criticisms brought to the concept of sustainable development based on the previous studies conducted on the subject were examined. It is thought that the study will contribute to the literature by eliminating the lack of a critical perspective on sustainable development in this way.
SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT-A NECCESSITY FOR ECONOMIC GROWTH
academia, 2022
The human generation has to keep on changing year after year while the natural resources remain the same. The use of natural resourcesis a continuous process, which is transferable to the next generation. The use and reuse of natural resources is helpful in satisfying the need of the people on this earth. The sustainable development is the situation where society has to maintain and give a boost to the exiting environment and make it capable of reuse. With the development of technology and new innovations in the scientific filed, the human are capable of making artificial environment but the natural resouces are supposed to be protected for the new generations to come. In case the human being are aware of the responsibility of preserving the environment and handing over the healthy environment to the next generation, efforts are to be undertaken towardsthis direction without any further loss of time. For the same reason various societies are working at different parts of the world to protect the environment for sustainable development. Sustainable development is development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. The protection of environment should be considered as a philanthropic activity with a view to save the environment for the next generation since the deterioration of the environment has adverse effect on generations to come. Therefore, it is the ethical responsibility of the present people to be more generous and may not harm the natural environment. The government of India has undertaken exhaustive steps in the same direction. The pertinent legislations are:
Sustainable development and the conventions regarding the environmental protection at a global level
Analele Universităţii din Oradea, Fascicula: Protecţia Mediului, 2012
Although the latest economic approaches refer to the natural environment as if it were part of the economic system, using numerous planning techniques and strategies in favor of the environmental protection and conservation, the obvious negative effects had on the environment calls in for a brand new conception on the economic development. This new perspective, called "sustainable development", has become a paradigm of the 21 st century and it includes all means of development, as the environmental policy implies the participation of many interested people and institutions such as governments, international organizations, non-governmental groups and even people themselves, who make significant efforts together, thus contributing to its evolution on all levels. The sustainable development is a concept which has recently become more and more frequently used, attracting people's attention and interest; it is a process which implies protecting the environment, sustaining a less destructive industrialization and also the replacement of the intensive and uncontrolled means of economic development, so as to prevent the natural resources from drying out, preserving them for the future generations as well. Approaching the concept of sustainable development is nothing like a simple way of regarding the environmental protection. On the contrary, the sustainable development represents a new concept of economic growth; in fact, it is that sort of concept which triggers in people a sense of moderation and equity, without destroying the nature and compromising its capacity of sustaining our successors.
