PERSPECTIVES FOR NEW FRAMEWORK OF TEACHING – LEARNING FOREIGN LANGUAGE WITH MOODLE

Rapid advances in technology and computer aided teaching have offered new opportunities and opened new horizons for teaching and learning. In 2012 the distance learning programme of Fundamentals of Business English for extramural students was launched at Aleksandras Stulginskis University. Moodle-based e-Learning environment, an innovative way of teaching/learning in a tertiary education system enforced the application of new tools, new methodologies, approaches and framework to promote active foreign language teaching and learning. However, a technology itself does not promote learning or teaching; its effectiveness depends on the teachers' and learners' active participation and involvement. Implementing innovative tools of teaching/learning has called for a very close communication between the teacher and learner. Accordingly, the research on student feedback based upon the questionnaire has been undertaken to investigate the students approach to the Moodle-based e-learning and the impact technology has on the student attitudes towards learning foreign language through the computer. The article focuses on practical approach for the improvement of foreign language course design, outlines the advantages and disadvantages of Moodle assignments, activities and resources.

The Implementation of E-Learning to Support Learning and Teaching Foreign Language: A Case Study in Ukrainian Higher Education

2022

The research paper examines current tendencies in implementing e-learning as an integral part of the educational process, particularly in foreign language learning in higher education. The scholar attempts to answer the following question: How can e-learning contribute to effective foreign language learning? We have identified how e-learning is applied, the different existing e-learning strategies students prefer to learn with, and the extent to which learners are satisfied with the support offered by e-learning to assist the process of foreign language learning. The study is significant because understanding the learners’ preferences and support of these up-dated methods would help to find effective teaching practices within e-learning, fostering student-centered approaches. The contribution of this research is to estimate the new experiences of university students due to e-learning implementation. We used a quantitative method to collect research data by online tools (Google forms...

MODERN INFORMATION TECHNOLOGIES IN TEACHING FOREIGN LANGUAGES

Teachers are all the time looking for different ways of increasing the quality of their teaching. At present the use of computers and new technologies has become an important aspect of foreign language learning. They have enabled the language teaching community to redefine some of the strategies and concepts of teaching and learning. In this climate computerbased distance learning courses have emerged. One of the supports of the distance learning is e-learning, which is widely used at the University of Hradec Králové. Sometimes e-learning is also used in the so-called blended learning. The research concentrates on the perception of the term blended learning, its possible model, reasons of its exploitation and contribution. This done by applying a comparative and contrastive research methods together with WebCT environment for creating e-learning courses. Furthermore, one of the representative blended courses is introduced and evaluated. In conclusion, the main results are exemplified, such as improved pedagogy, increased access/ flexibility or increased cost effectiveness.

FOREIGN LANGUAGE TEACHING IN A DIGITAL ENVIRONMENT: TEACHERS' ATTITUDES AND BELIEFS

PHILOLOGIST – Journal of Language, Literature, and Cultural Studies, 27(14), 2023

Taking into account that traditional foreign language teaching is being moved to a virtual environment, the obligations of teachers are changing constantly. Their main tasks are to accept new technologies and develop their digital literacy. However, whether teachers will apply ICT in teaching practice depends on their personal and pedagogical attitudes and beliefs. When teachers' attitudes and beliefs are positive, new technologies become one of their important teaching materials. The opposite of this, with negative attitudes and beliefs about applying ICT in teaching, teachers reject them and do not enable students to acquire new skills and knowledge in a virtual environment. In that sense, we wanted to examine the foreign language teachers' attitudes about the use of ICT digital tools in Serbia. The results are obtained by the inferential analysis which is used to confirm or refute hypothesis about the possible conditioning of the identified factors. The results showed that positive attitudes of teachers have a positive effect on learning in a digital environment, but also that positive attitudes increase significantly with their education for the use of ICT. Finally, it was shown that teachers employed at the university have more negative attitudes about the advantages of language learning in a digital environment, in contrast to teachers employed in primary and secondary schools and in foreign language schools. In support of this, it is observed that training in this field is also necessary for teachers who work at faculties in order to increase awareness of the value of new technologies in the teaching process.

About the Benefits of Adopting E-Learning in the Current Romanian Educational System

Asian Journal of Education and Social Studies

Starting from the current context, of the transition of educational activities in the online environment, we will try to outline some aspects that e-learning covers. Through this study, we aim to synthesize the general perception of those involved in the Romanian education system, where it was possible to obtain relevant information. Based on the online discussions with the students, as well as based on the meetings we had with colleagues, we decided to present the perception of the interviewees regarding online education. Equally, following the answers received, we aimed to expose the favorable (pros) and less favorable (cons) aspects of the transition to e-learning in the Romanian education system. Their exemplification was made taking into account the options of the main actors involved in education; for each of them (teachers or formators, students, parents) the possible benefits or disadvantages were highlighted in relation to the education carried out exclusively online.
