Abstract
The study assessed the influence of alcohol, gender and marital status on vulnerability to HIV/AIDS. One hundred and twenty participants between 18 to 45 years with a mean age of 31.5 years responded to the HIV/AIDS vulnerability scale and provided information on their alcohol use pattern. Twenty six or (22%) reported their alcohol consumption level as “high” and 94 or (78%) reported “low” alcohol consumption, 83 or (69%) were single and 37 or (31%) were married. An independent t – test was used for the statistical analysis of the data. The first findings revealed that alcohol consumption was strongly associated with vulnerability to HIV/AIDS,[t(118) =3.05, p< 0.05]. The findings also revealed that gender have influence on vulnerability to HIV/AIDS, [t(118) = 2.39, p< 0.05]. However, marital status of the participants did not influence vulnerability to HIV/AIDS.
