Eect of Incorporating A FBG In L-Band Erbium-Doped Fiber Laser
The eect of incorporating a fiber Bragg grating (FBG) in long wavelength band erbium-doped fiber laser (L-band EDFL) is investigated. The EDFLs with and without the FBG operate at wavelength of 1579.3 and 1591.9 nm, respectively. At low pump power, the system without the FBG shows a lower threshold and a better slope eciency compared to that of the system with the FBG. However, the out- put power is reduced at higher pump power due to the mode competition in the cavity. By incorporating the FBG in the laser cavity, the side mode suppression ratio (SMSR) of the laser is significantly improved and a higher output power can be obtained at high pump power. At pump power of 99 mW, the EDFL with the FBG has output power of 11.9 dBm, a 3 dB bandwidth of 0.06 nm and a SMSR of 59 dB.
Tunable Multi-Wavelength Erbium Doped Fiber Laser Using Cascaded Apodized Fiber Bragg Gratings
_ A novel tunable multi-wavelength laser using an erbium doped fiber (EDF) as a gain medium is proposed theoretically. The laser source is terminated by a chirped fiber Bragg grating (CFBG) on one side and cascaded apodized FBGs on the other side. Three and five-wavelength tunable EDF laser (EDFL) are demonstrated using applied strains and temperature variations to tune the lasing wavelengths.
A narrow-line Erbium-doped fiber laser and its application for testing fiber Bragg gratings
2009
We inspect the spectral features of a diode-pumped Erbium-doped fiber laser (EDFL) with a Fabry-Perot cavity composed of a wavelength-selective coupler in the form of fiber Bragg grating (FBG) and wavelength-insensitive Faraday rotator mirror (FRM). High accuracy for the spectral measurements is provided with the use of an optical heterodyne scheme where the EDFL output is mixed with radiation from a narrow-line semiconductor laser, allowing the detection of the EDFL spectra with a sub-pm resolution.

A multimode fiber Bragg grating (MMFBG)-based wavelength-switching erbium-doped fiber laser and its application in displacement sensing is proposed and demonstrated. According to the spatial-mode distribution in the multimode fiber (MMF), the modes reflected by the MMFBG at different wavelengths build a wavelength-dependent mode field on the transverse plane of the MMF. By varying spatial-launching position of the single-mode fiber against the MMFBG to achieve different mode group excitation and selection, single-wavelength lasing at 31 discrete wavelengths has been realized over a wide wavelength range.

Communications in Physics, 2008
The linear configuration single-mode Distributed Bragg Reflection (DBR) Erbium doped Fiber laser has been tested. The cavity length of the laser utilizing intracore Bragg reflectors, no longer than one centimetre and the grating bandwidth is below ~ 0.2 nm. The 1.55-$\mu$m emission wavelength of the laser can be continously tuned within 2 nm.
Generation of pulsed dual wavelength erbium doped fiber laser
2019
Single and dual wavelength fiber lasers and pulsed fiber lasers are well-known to be used for various applications. In the generation of dual wavelength fiber lasers and pulsed fiber lasers, the researchers found the mode competition among the dual wavelength is caused by the cross-gain saturation and strong homogeneous line broadening faced by erbium doped fiber (EDF). Therefore, the aim of this thesis is to generate a single and dual wavelength fiber laser and pulsed fiber laser by using fiber Bragg grating (FBG) in single ring and Figure-8 configurations at 1550 nm and 1560 nm. Analysis and optimization on single wavelength fiber laser and single wavelength pulsed fiber laser give a peak power of-10.70 dBm (8.51x10-2 mW) and-54.01 dBm (3.97x10-6 mW) with signal to noise ratio (SNR) of 59.70 dB and 10.29 dB, respectively, at 1550 nm. Similarly, at 1560 nm, this gives a peak power of-13.60 dBm (4.37x10-2 mW) and-60.00 dBm (1.00x10-6 mW) with SNR of 57.60 dB and 8.78 dB, respectively. For dual wavelength fiber laser and dual wavelength pulsed fiber laser, this gives a peak power of-12.90 dBm (5.13x10-2 mW) and-54.03 dBm (3.95x10-6 mW) at 1550 nm and a peak power of-14.80 dBm (3.24x10-2 mW) and-57.99 dBm (1.59x10-6 mW) at 1560 nm, respectively. The SNR obtained for 1550 nm and 1560 nm for dual wavelength fiber laser and dual wavelength pulsed fiber laser are 55.38 dB and 11.16 dB and 53.58 dB and 11.27 dB, respectively. The repetition rate of single and dual wavelength pulsed fiber laser is 2.878 MHz. It can be concluded that single and dual wavelength fiber lasers are successfully generated using single ring and figure-8 configurations whereas single and dual wavelength pulsed fiber laser are generated using only Figure-8 configuration due to mode locking occurrence. The polarization inside the cavity is controlled to solve mode competition and homogeneous in EDF, in order to obtain a stable dual wavelength.
Distributed Bragg Reflector Laser Based on Composite Fiber Heavily Doped with Erbium Ions
Photonics
A distributed Bragg reflector (DBR) laser with a specially designed, heavily Er3+-doped composite fiber of a length as short as 1.8 cm is demonstrated. The DBR laser, pumped by a 980 nm laser diode with power of up to 370 mW, generates single-frequency radiation at a wavelength of 1535 nm with a narrow instantaneous linewidth of <100 Hz and a high output power of 2 mW. The obtained Er3+-doped fiber laser parameters pave the way toward a broad range of practical applications from telecommunications and sensing to scientific research.

We propose and demonstrate a novel room-temperature multiwavelength erbium-doped fiber laser (EDFL) with a 0.8-nm wavelength spacing based on four-wave mixing (FWM) in a length of high-nonlinear photonic crystal fiber and sampled-fiber Bragg grating. The FWM processes suppress the wavelength competition of the EDFL and increase the number of lasing wavelength. By adjusting the FWM efficiency, the number of the concurrent lasing wavelengths can be changed, and the peak power differences among the main oscillation wavelengths are less than 2.0 dB.
The effect of erbium concentration on the optical spectrum of erbium-doped fiber laser
2006
Abstract We report an experimental observation of the influence of concentration of Er 3+ ions in an Erbiumdoped silica fiber on the spectral characteristics of an erbium fiber laser. Our basic conclusion is that an increase of erbium concentration in the fiber results in the laser optical spectrum narrowing. We also discuss possible mechanisms responsible for this effect.
