STRATEGIC LEADERSHIP IN THE VUCA ERA: CHALLENGES FACING COVID-19 (original) (raw)

The Covid-19 pandemic that has hit the whole world, including Indonesia, has opened our eyes to how big the impact and impact of a disease outbreak is. Covid-19, which initially appeared locally, then spread and ravaged the joints of the world's economy and life. When the emergence of Covid-19 at the end of 2019, none of the world's think tanks and strategic thinkers (both from the government, private sector, universities) took it into account, so that the planning outlook for 2020 and the years after is still predicted with normal assumptions. However, in reality, this health crisis has a major impact on the global environment and the lives of all levels of society. All countries in the world eventually turn their strategic plans into emergency response policies by mobilizing all resources to overcome them. The Covid-19 outbreak is characterized as a "landscape-scale" crisis which can be interpreted as an unexpected or large event that occurs with extraordinary speed, causing a high level of uncertainty that causes disorientation, feelings of loss of control, and emotional disturbances that cause disorientation. strong (Gibbons, 2007). As a result of Covid-19, which is still happening until now, the global crisis is a clear example that the world today and in the future will always be faced with VUCA (Volatility, Uncertainty, Complexity, and Ambiguity). Other aspects that can have a big influence and become important factors for VUCA also need attention, such as: political, economic, social, technological, ecological, and environmental.
