The purpose of this ethnomatematics research is to describe the process of calculating auspicious days for Javanese wedding in Purworejo. This research is a descriptive research with a qualitative approach which used interviews to collect the data. The subject of this research was an individual who implemented the process of calculating auspicious days in Javanese society. The results show that the process of calculating auspicious days for Javanese wedding in Purworejo was an activity that could be possibly used as mathematics learning.

Ketupat Eid Tradition of the North Coast of Java as an Alternative Mathematics Learning Media

Learning mathematics requires real situations that students often face. Tradition as local wisdom from the surrounding community can be used for learning mathematics so that students can reach the context of abstract mathematics. In this article, the researcher explains how teachers can take advantage of local culture and traditions in the form of Ketupat Eid on the north coast of Java to be used in learning mathematics. This research was conducted on the northern coast of Java, where every seventh day after Eid Mubarak, the area performs the Ketupat Eid tradition. Researchers tried to connect some foods that only exist in the Ketupat Eid tradition in the form of Ketupat and Lepet with mathematics in school. The results showed that diamonds could be used for rhombuses, prisms, and beams, and Lepet can be used as a tube context in geometry learning.

Culture should be a fundamental thing for every individual. Combining the culture with existing learning is one way to reintroduce the culture to the future generation. Simultaneously, it cannot only increase a proud of culture, but also it offers an innovative way in learning. As the largest tribe in Indonesia, Javanese culture needs to be reproduced through education and broader disseminated in other disciplines, mathematics is no exception. Meanwhile, emerging culture in mathematical concept has been conveyed by some experts in the study of ethnomathematics. Combining mathematics and Javanese culture is expected to provide a new breakthrough. The paradigm of this study lied on transformative research, which integrates multi-qualitative research paradigms through critical auto-ethnographical study. This paper aims to present a study on ethnomathematics and ragawi calculations discussed in depth through the point of view of the use of a numeric base. The rules and the origins of ethnomathematics, and the magnitude of conversions in the ragawi calculations are also explained as the research findings. Some examples of mathematical problems using ragawi calculations' context are provided to give insights for elementary mathematics educators in their classroom practices.

Ethno-mathematical research trends pioneered by D'Ambrosio are on the rise, especially in Indonesia as a nation with high cultural diversity which has a lot of potential researches to be explored. This paper demonstrates the fundamentals of understanding mathematics within the traditional Malay culture. Western scholars have labelled the Malay community as those who are not able to evaluate the accuracy of mathematics. However, it is obscure to accept that the mathematical ideologies of Malays are merely based on their close observations of nature. Banjarese elders who had never attended either formal or non-formal schools have implemented relatively unique arithmetic operation. The arithmetic operation does not use calculators nor writing tools but can produce a quick and precise calculation. This kind of arithmetic operation is commonly used in everyday life and well-known as hitung bini. This study aimed to describe hitung bini as one of ethno-mathematics found in Banjarese cultures then analyze it from mathematics viewpoints. This study used explorative method with qualitative approach. The data were collected through observation, interview, and documentation. The findings of the study obtained that hitung bini operation actually conforms to formal arithmetic procedures in math which includes place value rules and basic arithmetic operation properties such as commutative, associative, distributive, identity and inverse.
Ethnomathematics in Wedding Traditions of Dayak Ethnic

The purpose of this study was to explore ethnomathematics in the Dayak Pompak'ng ethnic marriage tradition. The type of research used in this study is qualitative research with an ethnographic approach. This research was conducted on the Dayak Pompak'ng community, especially in Lintang Pelaman Village, precisely in Lintang Pelaman Hamlet, Kapuas District, Sanggau Regency, West Kalimantan Province, Indonesia. The data sources are custom leaders and mathematics teachers, and Dayak Pompak'ng people. Data collection techniques used in this study are direct observation, direct communication, and documentary techniques. Data collection tools used are observation sheets, interview guidelines, and documents. The data analysis technique used in this research is data reduction, data display and conclusion drawing/verification. The validity checking technique used is source triangulation. Based on the data analysis conducted on the findings in the field and interviews, the results of this study indicate that there are wedding traditional tools and activities that have mathematical concepts in form, use in the form of tools used, and how to use these tools. The materials in the traditional Dayak Pompak'ng ethnic game are flat shapes, Pythagorean theorem, spatial figures, calculations and sequences and series. The results showed that there was a relation between local culture and mathematics learning.
Ethnomathematics: The discovery of mathematical concepts in the Sekaten tradition

Ethnomathematics should be fully understood and developed to become a fundamental idea to solve crucial problems in learning mathematics. It focused on describing the exploration of prospective mathematics teachers in Indonesia in understanding ethnomathematics and its practice. This study aims to examine how future mathematics teachers perceive and use an ethnomathematics approach in the sekaten. The qualitative research employed mathematics education students at one of the leading private universities in Central Java Province. The study concludes that the concept of ethnomathematics should be limited to exploration and experimentation on mathematics learning in schools and should be adopted as a curriculum in education. Ethnomathematics is fun, meaningful, and more concrete for students learning mathematics as ethnomathematics can be extracted from cultural heritage. Therefore, ethnomathematics study is considered an innovation in mathematics learning that can be sustainably explored.
