Assessment Practices of Grade 8 Physics Teachers in the New Normal: A Multiple Case Study (original) (raw)

This multiple case study investigated the assessment practices of five Grade 8 physics teachers in the new normal through online classroom observations, interviews, and collection of their Weekly Home Learning Plans (WHLP). Assessment is an integral part of instruction, as attested by the Philippine Department of Education (DepEd) in their issuances, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. Moreover, various studies on assessment literacy of teachers generated results that may affect how assessment is delivered, especially in the new normal. In line with this, this multiple case study research was conducted to determine the assessment practices in the new normal of five Grade 8 physics teachers in the Schools Division of Makati City in the Philippines. Data gathering consisted of a single-session observation of their online synchronous classes, an online interview, and an investigation of the Weekly Home Learning Plans (WHLP) they prepared. Results showed that the participants have similarities and differences in their assessment practices. There are also unique practices observed on an individual or a group of teachers. The participants also reported different challenges they faced in conducting assessment in the new normal.
