International Journal of Electrical and Computer Engineering (IJECE), 2022
The coronavirus disease (COVID-19) outbreak has led to many infected worldwide and has become a global crisis. COVID-19 manifests in the form of shortness of breath, coughing and fever. More people are getting infected and healthcare systems worldwide are overwhelmed as healthcare workers become exhausted and infected. Thus, remote monitoring for COVID-19 patients is required. An internet of things (IoT) based real-time health monitoring system for COVID-19 patients was proposed. It features monitoring of five physiological parameters, namely electrocardiogram (ECG), heart rate (HR), respiratory rate (RR), oxygen saturation (SpO2) and body temperature. These vitals are processed by the main controller and transmitted to the cloud for storage. Healthcare professionals can read real-time patient vitals on the web-based dashboard which is equipped with an alert service. The proposed system was able to transmit and display all parameters in real-time accurately without any packet loss or transmission errors. The accuracy of body temperature readings, RR, SpO2 and HR, is up to 99.7%, 100%, 97.97% and 98.34%, respectively. Alerts were successfully sent when the parameters reached unsafe levels. With the proposed system, healthcare professionals can remotely monitor COVID-19 patients with greater ease, lessen their exposure to the pathogen, and improve patient monitoring.

With the commencement of the COVID-19 pandemic, social distancing and quarantine are becoming essential practices in the world. IoT health monitoring systems prevent frequent visits to doctors and meetings between patients and medical professionals. However, many individuals require regular health monitoring and observation through medical staff. In this proposed work, we have taken advantage of the technology to make patients life easier for earlier diagnosis and treatment. A smart health monitoring system is being developed using Internet of Things (IoT) technology which is capable of monitoring blood pressure, heart rate, oxygen level, and temperature of a person. This system is helpful for rural areas or villages where nearby clinics can be in touch with city hospitals about their patient health conditions. However, if any changes occur in a patient's health based on standard values, then the IoT system will alert the physician or doctor accordingly. The maximum relative error (%ϵ r) in the measurement of heart rate, patient body temperature and SPO 2 was found to be 2.89%, 3.03%, 1.05%, respectively, which was comparable to the commercials health monitoring system. This health monitoring system based on IoT helps out doctors to collect real-time data effortlessly. The availability of high-speed internet allows the system to monitor the parameters at regular intervals. Furthermore, the cloud platform allows data storage so that previous measurements could be retrieved in the near future. This system would help in identifying and early treatment of COVID-19 individual patients.

A novel approach to IoT based health status monitoring of COVID-19 patient
2021 International Conference on Science & Contemporary Technologies (ICSCT)
COVID-19 is a SARS-CoV-2 virus infection that almost always damages a person's respiratory system. Moderate symptoms often include fever, low saturation, and soreness, which frequently lead to severe conditions. An individual with mild breathing difficulties will perhaps not know when to go to a hospital or need oxygen. This is why people must get accurate information about their current condition. Many patients with COVID-19, even if they feel well, have a low concentration of oxygen in their blood. Low oxygen saturation levels can be an early warning sign that emergency medical assistance is required. The four key indicators that medical and healthcare providers regularly track include body temperature, heartbeat, respiration, and blood pressure. As the number of patients is increasing rapidly, it has been difficult to provide treatment in hospitals due to the limited number of seats, especially in a third-world country like Bangladesh. So, COVID-19 patient treatment should not only be centralized in treatment centers and outpatient facilities, but it is also equally important to develop remote monitoring strategies to monitor and advise the patients remotely. The proposed device involves multiple sensors for the tracking of vital signs and the results of the sensor will be transmitted in the cloud, which will be made available to health professionals for comprehensive analysis. The paper proposes a solution for health status monitoring of patients using the Internet of Things (IoT) that could prove beneficial while battling the deadly virus.
