Recent results on the Kobayashi and Green-Griffiths-Lang conjectures (original) (raw)
Japanese Journal of Mathematics
The study of entire holomorphic curves contained in projective algebraic varieties is intimately related to fascinating questions of geometry and number theory-especially through the concepts of curvature and positivity which are central themes in Kodaira's contributions to mathematics. The aim of these lectures is to present recent results concerning the geometric side of the problem. The Green-Griffiths-Lang conjecture stipulates that for every projective variety X of general type over C, there exists a proper algebraic subvariety Y of X containing all entire curves f : C → X. Using the formalism of directed varieties and jet bundles, we show that this assertion holds true in case X satisfies a strong general type condition that is related to a certain jet-semi-stability property of the tangent bundle TX. It is possible to exploit similar techniques to investigate a famous conjecture of Shoshichi Kobayashi (1970), according to which a generic algebraic hypersurface of dimension n and of sufficiently large degree d dn in the complex projective space P n+1 is hyperbolic: in the early 2000's, Yum-Tong Siu proposed a strategy that led in 2015 to a proof based on a clever use of slanted vector fields on jet spaces, combined with Nevanlinna theory arguments. In 2016, the conjecture has been settled in a different way by Damian Brotbek, making a more direct use of Wronskian differential operators and associated multiplier ideals; shortly afterwards, Ya Deng showed how the proof could be modified to yield an explicit value of dn. We give here a short proof based on a substantial simplification of their ideas, producing a bound very similar to Deng's original estimate, namely dn = ⌊ 1 3 (en) 2n+2 ⌋.

On a conjecture of Demailly and new bounds on Waldschmidt constants in PN
Journal of Number Theory
In the present note we prove a conjecture of Demailly for finite sets of sufficiently many very general points in projective spaces. This gives a lower bound on Waldschmidt constants of such sets. Waldschmidt constants are asymptotic invariants of subschemes receiving recently considerable attention [1], [2], [6], [11], [14].

A short proof of the Denjoy conjecture
Bulletin of the American Mathematical Society, 1981
1. In a recent letter Harold Shapiro has communicated to one of the authors his version of a nice (unpublished) proof of Matts Essen in which ideas from Heins' [2] version of the Denjoy-Carleman-Ahlfors theorem are applied to investigating the growth of certain univalent functions. It is the aim of the authors to show here that the direction may be reversed in a surprising way, giving a simple and natural proof of the Denjoy conjecture based on ideas from the theory of univalent functions. We wish to thank Harold Shapiro and Matts Essen for the inspiring communication.
Towards the Green-Griffiths-Lang conjecture
The Green-Griffiths-Lang conjecture stipulates that for every projective variety X of general type over C, there exists a proper algebraic subvariety of X containing all non constant entire curves f : C → X. Using the formalism of directed varieties, we prove here that this assertion holds true in case X satisfies a strong general type condition that is related to a certain jet-semistability property of the tangent bundle T X .
The proof of Muqattash-Yahdi conjecture

a b s t r a c t In this paper we solve an open problem posed by Muqattash and Yahdi [I. Muqattash, M. Yahdi, Infinite family of approximations of the digamma function, Math. Comput. Modelling 43 (2006) 1329-1336], also rediscussed by Qi and Guo [F. Qi, B.-N. Guo, Sharp inequalities for the psi function and harmonic numbers, arXiv:0902.2524v1 [math.CA]].
On a generalization of the analog of a theorem of Chen and Sun
2012
We generalize in this work, the identities obtained by Gessel, Chen and Sun, on the Bernoulii numbers. The tool used by Chen and sun is the extended Zeilberger algo-rittrm. Instead of this, we exploit a particular case of the Leibniz's formula. As corollary we recover a result analogous to the one found, by the last two mentioned authors above.
A Chabauty-Coleman bound for surfaces
2021
Building on work by Chabauty from 1941, Coleman proved in 1985 an explicit bound for the number of rational points of a curve C of genus g ≥ 2 defined over a number field F , with Jacobian of rank at most g− 1. Namely, in the case F = Q, if p > 2g is a prime of good reduction, then the number of rational points of C is at most the number of Fp-points plus a contribution coming from the canonical class of C. We prove a result analogous to Coleman’s bound in the case of a hyperbolic surface X over a number field, embedded in an abelian variety A of rank at most one, under suitable conditions on the reduction type at the auxiliary prime. This provides the first extension of Coleman’s explicit bound beyond the case of curves. The main innovation in our approach is a new method to study the intersection of a p-adic analytic subgroup with a subvariety of A by means of overdetermined systems of differential equations in positive characteristic.
