Uttar Pradesh has vast potential of aquatic bio-resources and offers considerable scope for inland fisheries development and aquaculture. To investigate the ichthyofaunal diversity of Faizabad (Uttar Pradesh), data were collected with the help of local skilled fishermen and fish farmers from different locations of the district for 6 months during 2010-2011. Collections were made from rivers (Ghaghra, Tamsa), lakes, irrigation canals and ponds. During the study period, 62 fish species belonging to 41 Genera, 20 Families and 9 Orders were identified. Cypriniformes was the dominated Order with 22 species (35.48%) followed by Siluriformes 20 species (32.25%) and Perciformes 9 species (14.51%). The present study showed that Faizabad possesses rich fish diversity but proper conservation measures are required to maintain sustainability and richness of the species diversity of the district.
Fish Diversity of Lucknow District (Uttar Pradesh), India

Lucknow a capital of Uttar Pradesh has vast potential of fish faunal diversity and offers considerable scope of inland fisheries development. Aquaculture activities in rural for most of the fisherman area. In order to establish fish faunal diversity of Lucknow a preliminary, data have been collected with the help of local fish farmers and market survey. Various lentic and lotic water bodies of different locations of the district for 9 months during 2014-2015 have been collected. During the study period, 83 fish species belonging to 58 Genera, 21 Families and 8 Orders have been identified. Cypriniformes was found the dominated Order with 56 species (68%) followed by Perciformes 9 species (11%) and Clupeiformes 6 species (7%). The present study showed that Lucknow possesses rich fish diversity but proper conservation measures are required to maintain sustainability and richness of the species diversity of the district.
Diversity and distribution of fish fauna in the Ib River, a tributary of Mahanadi, India

Ichthyofaunal survey was conducted in the Ib River (21°44’ to 22°50’ N; 83°56’ to 83°54’ E), an important tributary of Mahanadi, to evaluate the diversity and distribution of freshwater fishes along six sites on seasonal basis between February, 2016 and January, 2017. A total of 55 species belonging to 42 genera, 21 families and 9 orders were recorded from the study area. Maximum number of species belonged to the Order Cypriniformes (41.8%) followed by Siluriformes (21.8%) and Perciformes (21.8%). Maximum value of species richness was observed in downstream areas; Sundargarh and Barghat and least in upper stretches of Pamsala. Shannon–Weiner diversity index ranged between 2.47 to 3.68 at the six sites of Ib River indicating healthy state of the river. Bray-Curtis similarity cluster analysis suggests that similarities between sites decrease with increasing distance, with highest similarity found between Sundargarh and Barghat sites. Studies on ichthyofaunal diversity of Head Qadirabad, River Chenab, Punjab, Pakistan
Present study was aimed to access the ichthyofaunal diversity at Head Qadirabad, Chenab, Pakistan. 1391 fish specimens were collected during September 2015 to June 2016 on monthly basis. 43 species of fishes belonging to seven orders, 14 families and 34 genera were recorded. Overall fish catches were dominated by native fishes along with some exotic fishes like Cyprinus carpio, Ctenopharyngodon idella, Hypophthalmichthys molitrix, Oreochromis niloticus and Oreochromis mossambicus. On the basis of percentage contribution of families to their orders; Siluriformes (35.71%) was found dominant followed by Perciformes (28.57%). Cyprinidae was dominant on the basis of number and percentage contribution of genus and species represented with 14 genera (41.18%) and 19 species (44.19%) followed by Bagridae represented with three genera (8.82%) and four species (9.3%). The values for diversity, richness and evenness indices were 3.36, 13.36 and 0.89 respectively. Effective conservation measures are suggested to sustain the population of commercially important fishes.

Ichthyofaunal Diversity in Freshwater Rivers of South Dinajpur-JBNHS-2008.pdf
A steady decline in fish catch per year through the past decades, and selective decline of certain prized small table fishes in the rivers of the district have not been addressed so far. This study, therefore, aims to estimate the present status of the annual fish catch of South Dinajpur district, West Bengal, with reference to the species composition of the rivers and kharis during pre-monsoon, monsoon and post-monsoon seasons. In this two-year long survey, we have identified 5 orders, 6 suborders, 17 families, 11 subfamilies, 40 genera and 49 fish species and a few rarely caught species from the rivers, kharis and beels of the district.

Status of Fish Biodiversity in some selected reservoirs of Bundelkhand region of India

In the present communication the authors describe the diversity of freshwater fishes in the Bundelkhand region of India. On the basis of available research there are 93 species of fishes reported in Bundelkhand. These fishes comprised of 6 orders and 18 families. Out of six orders Cypriniformes (55%) is the most abundant order in this region followed by Siluriformes (24%), Persiformes (15%), Synbranchiformes (3%), Osteoglossiformes (2%) and Beloniformes (1%). Out of eighteen families the Cyprinidae is the most prevalent among all families. The Result showed 66 fish species found in district Damoh followed by 50 species in Panna, 27 species in Lalitpur, 27 species in Chhatarpur, 21 species in Sagar and 19 species of fishes in Jhansi.
Fish Diversity in Freshwater Perennial Water Bodies in East Midnapore District of West Bengal, India

Present survey synthesized information on fish biodiversity in the perennial freshwater body of Ramnagar, East Midnapore district of West Bengal, India. We documented 45 fish species under 29 genera, 18 families and 8 orders during the periods from1990 to 1995, whereas, 34 species from 21 genera and 12 families under 7 orders were recorded presently from freshwater body of different perennial pond. This present database of ichthyofauna clearly indicated that 11 fish species, 8 genera, 6 families and 1 order have lost from this investigated area. Basically, this agricultural based area associated with profuse application of various chemicals, poisons and drugs in agricultural field that largely pollute perennial water body and ultimately exerting growing pressure on living aquatic resources and driven significant fish biodiversity decline. However, over fishing, chemicals, agricultural runoff and other forms of pollution are most important factors which should be restricted for the conservation of freshwater fish biodiversity. Therefore, it may be concluded that preparation of zone wise database of these information and their implementation through Government and various Non-Government Organizations would be the key tools for conservation of freshwater fish biodiversity.
