Prefabricated Building Systems—Design and Construction
Encyclopedia, 2022
Modern Methods of Construction with Offsite Manufacturing is an advancement from prefabricated technologies that existed for decades in the construction industry, and is a platform to integrate various disciplines into providing a more holistic solution. Due to the rapid speed of construction, reduced requirement of labour and minimised work on site, offsite manufacturing and prefabricated building systems are becoming more popular, and perhaps a necessity for the future of the global construction industry. The approach to the design and construction of prefab building systems demands a thorough understanding of their unique characteristics.
Benefits of Prefabricated Building Material Over on Site Construction-A Review
The present paper deals with the prefabrication techniques for residential building using a system of Precast units for columns, beams, roof and walls. In this study Precast R.C.C. planks and partially Precast R.C. joints are considered for flooring and roofing system .In this study special types of Precast wall panels are recommended. Prefabricated columns with a specific configuration, beams and staircase units are considered in this paper. Special emphasis has been made with respect to the various joints and connections and the details of these are discussed. A comparison of the cost of construction of Precast system with that of a conventional construction unit has also been made. Finally, identified that large scale adopting of such a Precast systems will eventually result in considerable cost reduction with the added advantages of execution speed.

This paper titled: Prefab Structures Technology; A Cost effective alternative to concrete Blockwork in the Building Construction Industry in Nigeria (A case study of 6m x 4.8m Classroom Block) is born out of the need for a better, cheaper and more housing alternative for the low and middle income earners in the country and the need for the country to meet with its housing MDG’s target for the year 2020. The author was able to introduce the paper by discussing on the shortfalls and the need for an improved housing delivery in the country through the use of prefab structures technology. Prefabrication as an alternative to this indicated shortfall is not a new concept as it has been exaustively discussed in this paper, the use of Blockwork for building construction was also ex-rayed, its properties, uses, advantages and disadvantages indicated. The case study of 6m x 4.8 classroom Block which was designed & cost implications attached for both the Prehab Structures form & the Concrete Blockwork form was analysed given rise to the choice of the prehab to that of concrete Blockwork. Analysis of Prefabricational Construction And Conventional Construction
IRJET, 2022
Prefabricated buildings and structures are mounted from uniform prefabricated three dimensional units, providing strength, preset thermal properties of structures, dynamic stability, and immutability of geometric dimensions of the prefabricated elements during their manufacture, transportation, and installation in special and difficult conditions. Prefabrication has been widely regarded as a sustainable construction method in terms of its impact on environmental protection. One important aspect of this perspective is the influence of prefabrication on construction waste reduction and the subsequent waste handling activities, including waste sorting, reuse, recycle, and disposal. There are a couple of different popular forms of prefab with different benefits to offer. Depending on your specific construction project, you may want to consider implementing some of the options. We've pulled together information about the different kinds of prefab as well as the benefits of using this strategy in order to help you decide. In this project the replacement of non-structural component with prefabrication element is proposed. The cost benefit analysis will be studied including prefabrication element in conventional building.
A Study On Pre-Engineered Building – A Construction Technique
2015
Steel industry is growing rapidly in almost all the parts of the world. The use of steel structures is not only economical but also eco friendly at the time when there is a threat of global warming. Time being the most important aspect, steel structures (Pre fabricated) is built in very short period and one such example is Pre Engineered Buildings (PEB).This review from the past experiences presents the results of experimental and analytical studies done on Pre Engineered Building. Results show that these structures are economic, reduces construction cost and time, energy efficient and flexibility of expansion.
STUDY ON COMPARISON BETWEEN PREFABRICATED AND CONVENTIONAL STRUCTURES
Construction industry is considered as one of the most important industries in India. It is well known that most construction projects are done through conventional technique but prefabrication technique is a new one for the construction industry. The aim of the project is to study the present situation of the precast construction industry in India. Suggestions for improvement of the industry and study on cost effectiveness of precast concrete construction for single and multi-storey residential buildings are to be given. A literature survey was carried out in order to obtain the comparison between the conventional buildings with precast concrete buildings in India and some field visits are conducted to collect data to investigate the current situation regarding precast industry in India. In order to compare the cost of precast and in-situ construction, G+7 storey housing board colony building is considered.
Exploration of prefabricated building system in housing construction
Journal of Building Materials and Structures (JBMS), 2021
The main purpose of this paper is to examine the development and current status of prefabrication techniques and their application in building construction and why its use is still limited in the housing sector in India and why prefabrication is not being used so far to provide affordable housing to all. Prefabrication is the practice of assembling components of a structure in factories, and then transporting the complete assemblies or sub-assemblies to the construction site where the structure is to be located. The important aspect is how much of a potential difference it can establish so that appropriate development can be implemented. This paper reviews the current prefabrication system scenario for housing in India. The paper begins with a brief introduction about different types of prefabrication system. Subsequent topics address the need of prefabrication and ethical dilemma of technology transfer for prefabricated building system in India. In this paper, a qualitative descriptive evaluation research method has been used. The research methodology comprises of case studies, visual observation and data collection. Finally, two case studies around the world have been presented to validate and illustrate the various modern trends and application of design and construction methods of prefabricated building system in housing.

In recent years, high urbanization rate and rising housing demand has led to a numerous housing projects in the country. Although the housing projects are a good idea they always end up with high budget and overrun not to add a high maintenance cost with very small recovered value. The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects prefabricated materials and equipment on cost efficiency of a building. Three companies served as subjects in a study designed to investigate the topic. Data for this research were obtained from this companies which are Defense Construction Enterprise a traditional grade one construction company, AB-HAM Enterprise and under Ethiopian Construction Works-Buildings Technology Construction Sector a prefabricated construction companies, with some additional data gathered from online sources and online market. This study was conducted in Addis Ababa and all the empirical part of this study was conducted in April 2018. While gathering data for the empirical part of this research an interview was used to understand the challenges and prospect of the technology. The data found was then analyzed with SPSS to find the significance of the results. The findings show that using prefabricated construction materials is full of financial and time advantages with a better quality than a conventional construction, especially steel prefab is so advantageous with regards to cost, time, operation and recovery. The research also covers the usage level prefabricated construction on the country which turn out to be very low and what are the main reason for this low level of implementation on the country, for a better understanding of the alternative construction method this research shows why using prefabricated construction is very advantages over conventional construction for cost efficiency of buildings in Ethiopia. Prefabrication has been widely used in construction projects. Prefabrication improves construction speed, architectural quality, material efficiency, and worker safety while limiting construction's environmental impact than conventional construction practices built on site. This research explains the advantages of prefabricated construction methods and offers an alternative method for innovation for the High Rise Building Project of Perum Perumnas. The prefabrication method is an alternative solution based on the SWOT analysis, and software for modeling and structural design is STAAD.Pro V8.I by Bentley System, inc. The research results have shown that prefabrication methods in the High Rise Building Project of Perum Perumnas can save 7% (deviation = 868.47 million) more than the current construction method (conventional). In terms of time, the prefabrication method is faster than traditional methods, with a time difference of 371 days. The estimated time required to complete up...
