Journal of Modern Medical Information Sciences

Aim: Nursing is one of the challenging and stressful jobs that the managers of healthcare organizations should manage the created stress the commitment of the nurses during Covid 19 crisis. In this study, we investigated the relationship between stress management and nurses' organizational commitment with the mediating role of communication skills training. Methods: The statistical population of this descriptive-correlational study includes 108 managers and nurses of Farabi Hospital in Bastak city in Hormozgan province during 1399 who were selected by stratified random sampling method. The data collection tool is a researcher-made questionnaire. SPSS software was used to analyze the data in the inferential section and LISREL 8.8 software was used to fit the path coefficient. Results: The results showed that stress management has a positive and significant relationship with nurses' organizational commitment. This relationship was confirmed by path coefficient (0.19) and significance coefficient (2.92). Also, communication skills training as a mediating variable has created a positive and significant relationship between stress management and nurses' organizational commitment. In this way, the relationship between stress management and communication skills training with path coefficient (0.5) and significance coefficient (6.46) was confirmed. Furthermore, the relationship between communication skills training and nurses' organizational commitment with path coefficient (0.66) and significance coefficient (10.01) was confirmed. This relationship has the highest path and significance coefficient. Conclusion: Findings show that due to the Covid-19 crisis, stress management and communication skills training can help improve the productivity and performance of all staff, especially nurses, and affect their organizational commitment in the hospital.

The Influence of Teaching Program of Stress Management and Communication Skills on Improvement of Mental Health of Nurses and Hospital Staff: An Experimental Study

نشریه پرستاری ایران, 2014

Background & Aim: The occupational nature of health profession is such that employees in these occupations are exposed to various stressors which threaten their mental health. We aimed to investigate the influence of stress management and communication skills training on the improvement of mental health of nurses and hospital staff. Material & Methods: It was a quasi-experimental study. The sample included 32 nurses and other hospital staff of Baqiyatallah hospital in Tehran that were first recruited by voluntary sampling and then were randomly assigned to experimental and control groups. Stress management and communication skills training program based on the cognitive-behavioral theory was performed during a 16 hours period. Data was collected by Depression Anxiety Stress Scale (DASS) before and after the intervention and was analyzed by descriptive statistics and analysis of covariance using SPSS-PC (v. 18). Results: The results of the analysis of covariance indicated that the intervention has significantly reduced stress and anxiety in the experimental group compared to the control group (P< 0/01). However, no significant difference was seen in terms of depression (P=0/861). Conclusion: By reducing symptoms of stress and anxiety, stress management and communication skills training based on cognitive-behavior theory can improve mental health of nurses and hospital staff. Accordingly, using this program by health managers to improve mental health of their staff is recommended.

Design and validation of Virtual Reality software package with Real images for treatment of attention deficit disorder symptoms

Advances in Cognitive Science

Introduction: The inability to concentrate on a specific topic in the presence of distracting factors is of evident symptoms of Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD). Controlled simulation of such factors through immersion in real environments by Virtual Reality (VR) technology can be effective to improve attention. The study aims to design and validate a VR-based software package to decrease the effect of distraction factors and improve ADD symptoms. Methods: The VR-based software package comprises 18 short panoramic footages with predetermined scenarios, each of which includes the main topic and some irrelevant distracting factors. The intervention procedure includes watching two footages per session and answering the related questions. For content validation, five attention psychotherapists and five VR experts were selected on purpose, and after applying their revisory comments, the results of the validation questionnaires were analyzed to obtain the Cohen's Kappa coefficient. For introductory intervention, the population comprised all female students with ADD in grade six of the elementary school in 2017-18 academic years in Isfahan, Iran. A limited sample of 14 people was selected based on inclusion criteria and randomly assigned to equal experimental and control groups. The intervention was carried out for the experimental group in nine sessions, while the control group was on the waiting list. All subjects' parents completed the SNAP-IV questionnaires before and after the intervention period, and the results were analyzed the using non-parametric Mann-Whitney U test in SPSS-23. Results: Cohen's Kappa coefficient of 0.83 shows acceptable content validity. The Mann-Whitney U test indicated the effectiveness of VR-based software package on improving attention in students with ADD (F=-3.232, P=0.001). Conclusion: Simulating real distracting factors in an immersive VR platform can lead to an improvement in attention and reduce ADD symptoms. Moreover, customizing the virtual environment based on the subject's demands can provide an ideal therapy plan.
