The Role of Romanian Universities in Increasing Graduates’ Employability. Curriculum Management and Development of Competences Required by the Labor Market

2015

IT&C instruments have been introduced in teaching and learning in order to facilitate the acquisition of competences and develop abilities for using new media and technologies. They lead to creating the competences which are necessary for a well-trained workforce. The results of a previous study where we wanted to identify the students’ main requests regarding development needs by using new teaching/learning technologies have highlighted the support that students want to receive from universities in finding a workplace. Thus, “84% of students want universities to establish partnerships with private institutions or ask for their support in developing projects in which students could participate as volunteers. 64% of students want the curriculum to be adapted to the employers’ requests and 59% consider it is necessary to include new teach/learn tools in the process of adapting the curriculum†(Butum, Stan & Zodieru, 2015). The Romanian Academic system has suffered some radical changes over history but the most relevant are from far the ones from the last decade. My research is based on statistical dates from Statistical Yearbooks of Romania. I insisted on economic and low sciences because the study demonstrated that the number of students who choose to follow these colleges are increasingly higher.

The preparation for being a researcher in Romania today

MATEC Web of Conferences, 2017

Higher technical education in Romania is organized in three cycles: Bachelor, Masters and PhD. Theoretically, the powers provided by the three levels of education should be in correspondence with the requirements of COR (ISCO-88-COM European Community and the UN: ISCO 88) for generic jobs, specified in previous herewith: production engineer, research engineer, and researcher. This paper explores the last two aspects in order to see to what extent the names of study disciplines and especially their content gives the graduate competences and skills of research. We are looking for causes for which young graduates of master and doctoral especially not find appropriate jobs in the labor market preparation. From the position of academics with experience in teaching the final year of Bachelor and Master levels, trying to answer to the questions: What should we teach, How should we teach? Who should we teach? We train for right people? The answers are tasks for interdisciplinary collective of teachers, researchers and employers. Therefore, without claiming an exhaustive treatment of the matter under discussion, the paper is intended as a call a call to quickly find viable solutions. Where answers are not appropriate, will have to find solutions but the decision in their choice and then their implementation in the short time it is a governmental task.

Issues and Insights Regarding Tertiary Education. A Romanian Perspective

2017

Education is one of the main pillars of wealth, prosperity and competitiveness worldwide and thus it deserves special attention when creating macro strategies and policies, as education leads to increased added value in the future (growth potential). This paper aims to address a series of major issues in tertiary education by looking especially at the distribution by field (specializations) in the Romanian education system. Our paper is built on a brief literature review and on an analysis of the Romanian higher education, by taking into account official statistical data in this field. We observed there is an imbalance between supply and demand in education, if we consider the number of graduates and the needs of our economy. We believe our results are useful for decisions-makers at both macro-level (state) and micro-level (universities) in formulating their strategies, in order to offer specializations in correlation with the labor market demand.
