ABSTRACT This reflection on communities’ position in forest management was carried out in Manhica locality, Administrative Post of Homoíne district, aiming to understand the involvement of communities in forest resources management. To this end, the work includes studying the communities’ sensitivity about the importance of forests in the environment, assessing community participation in forest management activities and analysing the decentralization of forest management responsibilities. The mixed approach (quantitative and qualitative) is a peculiar way of obtaining and analysing information at the study site, aiming to define actions to address phenomena or facts and generate new and systematic knowledge. The objectives of this work can contribute to the development of a participatory forest management philosophy that incorporates, strengthens and consolidates the sustainable use and conservation of forests in order to reduce illegal activities in the sector and minimize their socioeconomic and environmental impacts.
