Aspects Regarding Safety and Security in Hotels: Romanian Experience

This study investigates safety and security from the perspective of Romanian tourists by assessing the level of importance that tourists give to safety and security depending on the level of classification of the services they experienced and the generation to which they belong. We used a quantitative research method in the form of a questionnaire and analysed eight dimensions of safety and security: detectors, emergency preparedness, medical preparedness, staff security, guestroom security, pool and beach security, hotel access control, and cyber security. We identified the differences between tourists’ perception of safety and security depending on the level of classification of accommodation services and on generation.

A study of 930 hotel guests found relatively high acceptance of certain security measures, along with a willingness to pay extra for some of them. In particular, respondents were favorable to security cameras and requiring photo identification, and they would support having a first-aid kit in every hotel room. Study participants were mixed on more intrusive security efforts, such as metal detectors, visible security guards, and background checks of guests to see whether they have police records. Respondents younger than forty were both more likely to accept stringent security measures and more willing to pay for them. Women were also more supportive of strong security measures than were men, particularly men who are frequent travelers.
Safety & Security Concerns in Hospitality Industry
The hotels have become second home for leisure travelers and second office for business travelers. With rising acts of terrorism on board, the tourists and travelers have become skeptical about security issues within the hotel premises and often safety quotient of the property. The current issue looks into the safety-security issues haunting the thought process of guests and the modern options and approach that hotels have to gain the confidence of their guests.
Safety and Security Measures in Egyptian Hotels

This study investigates safety and security measures from Egyptian hotel guests' viewpoint, through assessing the importance level and usage level of measuring and testing the gap between the importance and usage of measures. Using IPA Methodology, a stratified random sample was chosen. 500 questionnaires were randomly distributed to guests in 5-star hotels. The results indicated that the highly important and rarely usage measures are related to three dimensions;-Medical Preparedness, Guestroom Security, and Emergency Preparedness‖. Meanwhile, the less important and widely used measures are related to two dimensions;-Detectors, and Access Control‖. Additionally, there is a statistically significant gap between the importance level and the usage level of measures. Hence, there are opportunities for changes and improvements in Egyptian hotels.
Safety and security as the basic determinants of quality of hotel services

Participation in culture is a human activity that can undoubtedly fill free time and is universally approved. Main roles that cultural institutions play include shaping and educating a consumer, who in the future will be not only a conscious and systematic recipient, but also a culture carrier. The article deals with the issue of subsidizing cultural institutions' projects aimed at young recipients with receptive minds. The results of research describe the feelings of managers of cultural institutions in relation to co-financing their activities. They also indicate the extent of utilization of various sources of project funding by institutions of culture.

The purpose of this exploratory and qualitative study is to investigate whether highly visible security measures employed in the lodging industry influence guests' perceptions of those properties, and whether those perceptions can be converted into a positive risk opportunity for the industry. Justification A hotel's security department is not commonly perceived by management as having a revenue generating function. It is commonly perceived to be an expense that has no measurable return on investment for the organization. In light of this notion, an investigation for a more thorough understanding towards any potential for a security department to generate revenue through marketing may benefit the industry. In sum, if a visible and present security force were viewed in a more positive light by management, perhaps it can be exploited to the organization's competitive advantage. Constraints Even for those properties that do have a security department, they are unlikely to advertise any present and visible security procedures. This may be in the interest of security, itself, or in the interest of guest comfort. Such lack of transparency will make for a natural research constraint. Also, the general public tends to conceptualize hotel crime in a foreign context, since the media tends to sensationalize terrorist attacks, which regularly occur overseas. However, some sectors of the hospitality industry have taken initiatives towards transparency. Very recently, The Carnival, Royal Caribbean, and Norwegian Cruise Lines voluntarily began posting to their websites data about allegations of serious crime aboard their ships. These 4 disclosures were reportedly the result of pressure put upon the industry by travelers for becoming more transparent (Anderson, 2013). But, there has not been much transparency on the part of the land based hospitality sector. There are few hotel crime statistics available to the public. The hotel industry tends to keep such incidents out of the public domain.
Safety Security and Loss Prevention During Hospitality Emergencies
Emergency management plays a significant role in the hospitality industry. Providing the highest levels of safety standards and security ensures good marketing for the hotels by preventing an accident before it becomes a major issue causing loss of life and property. By using secondary data this study investigates the impacts of emergency management, safety and security systems on loss prevention in the hotel industry. This study aims to explain the safety and security systems, information security used by hotels, and the importance of an updated emergency plan (checklist) when dealing with an actual risk. The results of this study explain that using an effective information system and being well prepared for emergencies could prevent or minimize loss for the hotels. An effective system would also forecast any possible accidents. The importance of continuous emergency training for the employees is also emphasized. Finally, a focus on good marketing tools for hotels to create a safe environment for the guests and meeting planners is included.

Security is one of the prime concern as far as hotel industry is concerned especially after witnessing the horrific incident on 26 th November 2008 in Mumbai. This was an eye opener for the government of India and may other governments across the world. This called for focused attention and revamping the security needs and measures of the Hospitality Industry. Security in Hospitality Industry comprises of three levels starting with passive security systems, which includes fire and life security (detection, evacuation, use of extinguishers and danger management processes). The second level is called active security components, which includes video surveillance (CCTV), access control, intrusion detection systems and x-ray machines at the hotel's main entrance. A third level is called hard security systems, which can help prevent or manage serious threats or any other attacks. This research paper would aim at analyzing the active security components that being adopted by the hotels in Pune city and understand additional methods that were being adopted for better security.
