Objective: Curriculum development in medical education should be a methodical and scholarly, yet practical process that addresses the needs of future clinicians, trainees in surgery in general and Anatomy in particular. Continuous developments in undergraduate preclinical medical education in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia have produced advancement in the content and delivery of basic medical sciences including human anatomy. Keeping in view the significance of curriculum development of Anatomy, the aim of this study was to find out the gravity of Anatomy teaching and students' feedback at the end of their preclinical course about the content of anatomy and its relation with understanding the function of the body both in health and diseases. A detailed questionnaire was distributed to the medical students at the end of their anatomy course and they were asked to tick the appropriate box to give their opinion regarding course of anatomy taught to them region wise. Results: The present study result shows that limbs and extremities (51%); histology (49%) and embryology (45%) were taught in too much detail. However, thorax (76%); abdomen (71%); headache & neck (63%); brain (57%) and pelvis and perineum (54%) were taught adequately. Furthermore, vertebral column (45%); applied anatomy (41%) and skin and connective tissue (28%) were taught less adequately. Conclusion: It is concluded that 50% students felt that the contents of anatomy were taught adequately. However, 28(27.90%) were taught too long and 21(21.54%) students replied that they were less adequately taught. Keeping in view of the above facts, the results have a message that King Saud University should start practice, innovate the anatomy curriculum regularly to produce better future clinicians who can compete at international levels.

Human anatomy is one of the fundamental subjects in medical and health education. In recent years, anatomy teaching in Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM) has undergone a major transition from a highly detailed, didactic method to student-centred pedagogy and clinical correlations. Hence, this study aimed to assess the perception of the anatomy curriculum amongst USIM clinical students and to evaluate the clinicians’ cognisance of their students’ anatomical knowledge and application. A cross-sectional study was conducted on 232 clinical students (fourth-, fifth- and final-year) and 32 clinicians from various disciplines with the validated questionnaires. Descriptive analysis was performed to analyse the findings regarding students’ and clinicians’ perceptions. Perspective of post graduate students regarding the medical physiology curriculum

Introduction: With the scientific advancements and novelty in the field of medical education, there is an evident requirement for constant changes in its educational curriculum, basic sciences in particular. Latest innovations need to be updated in the educational curriculum of modern health sciences. As a part of curriculum evolution, studies need to be done to explore the lacunae in the existing traditional curriculum. The present study was carried out to determine the Postgraduate students’ perspective of the Physiology curriculum with the help of a questionnaire. Aims and Objectives: The study was done to find out the views of the postgraduate students with regards to the physiology curriculum and also to invite suggestions for improvement. Materials and Methods: The study was conducted at MVJ Medical College, Bangalore using a questionnaire. The questionnaire was given to all Postgraduate students who require applying their basic science knowledge in their broad specialties. Results and Discussion: The results revealed that the majority of the students wanted to independently perform and interpret the clinical skills. With regards to the technical skills, students wanted to independently interpret or only observe the skill. Majority of them wanted small group teaching, interactive teaching and more of integrated teaching. Most of them felt that traditional curriculum needs to be reformed.
An overview of undergraduate physiology education in Turkish medical faculties

Physiology education, which occupies an important place in undergraduate medical education, exhibits diversities across the world. Since there was no specific source of information about physiology education in Turkish medical faculties, the authors aimed to evaluate the general status of undergraduate physiology teaching of medical students in Turkey. A questionnaire designed for the program used for medical students was sent to the physiology departments of 38 faculties that had academic personnel and had carried out medical education for at least 3 years. Introduction: Teaching in various medical college, worldwide has gone under lot of changes by the use different methodologies like the use of chalk piece to power point presentations (PPT) and virtual simulations. Clinical Medical Physiology is a 1st year subject in Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) course and often students find the subject difficult and too much. Trials by the use of single or multiple tools for teaching clinical medical physiology, in addition to conventional teaching, have been found to be useful. Physiology, implies student’s active participation in the teaching process for better acquisition of necessary knowledge and skills. Hence, judicious & optimum utilization of these teaching hours is of real importance for attaining the specified objectives. Aim: To know the preferences and the expectations of the existing methods of lectures in Physiology by the first professional MBBS students. Materials and Methods: A pre prepared and validated questionnaire was used to collect data from the first MBBS students. Results: Out of 150, study participants, 60 were male students and 90 were female students. Discussion and Conclustion: The most preferred teaching method by the students was interactive followed by didactic lectures. Feedback from the students enhances a change in pre-conceived notions about teaching learning principles to meet their expectations.
Students teaching students: Can medical students play a part in undergraduate physiology teaching?

Over the past decade active and self-directed learning has been given precedence in medical curricula. At the Faculty of Medical Sciences, University of Sri Jayewardenepura, Sri Lanka, a novel approach was trialed to teach applied physiology using a student-seminar, where the teaching content was developed by the medical students. Clinically relevant physiology topics were randomly allocated to ten studentgroups. Each group had to deliver their findings to peers and academic tutors during a seminar, using audiovisual aids. This study aimed to explore student perceptions regarding this novel learning experiment. Student perceptions of the seminar were explored using self-administered surveys and were rated. Analysis of subject-related knowledge showed that marks of the participants (n=125) had increased significantly, on average by 13% (t110= -8.878 p<0.001). Background-Time to time evaluation of medical curriculum by experts is the routine practice in medical education. However the student's perception and opinion about the teaching-learning methodology is equally important because it is meant for them. So, evaluation of teaching-learning methodology by the students in a medical college may further help in modification and construction of the medical curriculum. Considering these facts the present study is undertaken. Objectives-To understand the preferences and perception of medical students about the current methods of teaching and learning, aids used for teaching and also the qualities of the teacher influencing them. Materials and Methods: A detailed structured questionnaire was given to 100 students of 1st year in a our institution. Descriptive statistics were used for analysis of data. Frequency was expressed as percentage. Results-A total of 100 students (54 % males and 46% females) participated in this study. The most preferred teaching method was small group discussion (57%) while practical was the least preferred (18%). The most preferred learning method was tutorials (49%) and quiz programme (42%) while student seminar was the least preferred (9%).The most preferred modality of teaching aid was found to be Black board preferred by 34% students followed by Over Head projector (OHP) and PowerPoint Presentation(PPT). The most influencing quality of the teacher was the ability to teach (42%) and knowledge(38%) followed by enthusiasm(31%), while the personality was least preferred (6%). Conclusion-The results generated in this study suggests that students prefers active learning which should be student centered. Also the traditional chalk and board method with a blend PPT and quiz programme is appealing to the students. So, by using various methods appreciated by the students the teaching and learning of physiology can be made effective , interesting and enjoyable .
