The Extended Chiral Quark Model in a Tamm-Dancoff Inspired Approximation
2000
A procedure inspired by the Tamm-Dancoff method is applied to the chiral quark model which has been extended to include additional degrees of freedom: a pseudoscalar isoscalar field as well as a triplet of scalar isovector fields. The simpler, generic sigma\sigmasigma -- model has been used before as a test for the Tamm-Dancoff inspired approximation (TDIA). The extended chirial quark model is employed here to investigate possible novel effects of the additional degrees of freedom as well as to point out the necessesity to introduce a SU(3) flavour. Model predictions for the axial-vector coupling constant and for the nucleon magnetic moment obtained in TDIA are compared with experimental values.
Comparison of the Linear Sigma Model and Chiral Perturbation Theory for Nucleon Properties
Journal of Modern Physics, 2013
We compare the static nucleon properties in the Chiral Perturbation Theory (χPT) and the Linear Sigma Model (LSM). We consider a chiral model for the nucleon which is based on the linear sigma model with scalar-isoscalar and scalarisovector mesons coupled to quarks. We have solved the field equations in the mean field approximation for the hedgehog baryon state with different sets of model parameters. A good investigation of some static nucleon properties is obtained by the LSM.
Structure functions in the chiral bag model
Physics Letters B, 1989
We calculate the structure functions of an isoscalar nuclear target for the deep inelastic scattering by leptons in an extended version of the chiral bag model which incorporates the qq structure of the pions in the cloud. Bjorken scaling and Regge behavior are satisfied. The model calculation reproduces the low-x behavior of the data but fails to explain the medium-to large-x behavior. Evolution of the quark structure functions seem inevitable to attempt a connection between the low-energy models and the highenergy behavior of quantum chromodynamics.
A chiral potential model of the nucleon
Physics Letters B, 1986
A chirally invariant theory of nucleon and delta is developed in which confinement is imposed by means of a Dirac potential. The baryons are represented by symmetric SU(4) wave functions. The non-linear pion-quark coupling is treated exactly to second order and approximately in higher order. It is found that, in addition to the usual scalar potential, a significant vector potential is necessary to describe the static properties of nucleon and delta satisfactorily.
A Soft Bag Quark-Meson Coupling Model for High Density Nuclear Matter
AIP Conference Proceedings, 2004
The structure of high density nuclear matter is studied in the framework of a new approach, a mean-field description of non-overlapping neutron and proton bags with soft surfaces bound by the self-consistent exchange of the σ , ω and ρ meson fields. We consider in this formulation each bag with an internal region, where quarks are free, a finite surface region, where the quark wave functions are gradually suppressed, and an exterior region, where the quark wave functions vanish. The finite surface region with a typical scale of about half a Fermi models the smooth transition region between the perturbative and non-perturbative vacua, as expected from a gradual outside-inside restoration of chiral symmetry. As an application we determine the structure of the equation of state for neutron stars. We then consistently include in the formulation lepton degrees of freedom, the chemical equilibrium conditions for neutron stars and baryon number and electric charge conservation. We investigate properties of both nuclear and neutron matter. Using the TOV equations, the role of the softness of quark bags degrees of freedom on bulk static properties of neutron stars are determined.
Nucleon Properties from Modified Sigma Model
International Journal of Modern Physics A, 2007
Birse and Banerjee model is extended to include higher-order mesonic interactions. The field equations have been solved in the mean-field approximation and a good agreement with the data for the nucleon properties has been obtained. The agreement is better than that obtained by the original model of Birse and Banerjee which indicates the important of the inclusion of higher-order meson correlations.
Journal of Physics G: Nuclear and Particle Physics, 2001
An effective nuclear model describing ω-, ρand axial-mesons as gauge fields is applied to nuclear matter in the relativistic Hartree-Fock approximation. The isoscalar two-pion exchange is simulated by a scalar field s similar to that used in the conventional relativistic mean-field approach. Two more scalar fields are essential ingredients of the present treatment: the σ -field, the chiral partner of the pion, and the -field, the Higgs field for the ω-meson. Two versions of the model are used depending on whether the σ -field is considered as a dynamical variable or 'frozen', by taking its mass as infinite. The model contains four free parameters in the first case and three in the second one which are fitted to the nuclear matter saturation conditions. The nucleon and meson effective masses, compressibility modulus and symmetry energy are calculated. The results prove the reliability of the Dirac-Hartree-Fock approach within the linear realization of the chiral symmetry.
The baryon density in chiral bag models
Nuclear Physics A, 1988
The quark vacuum plays an essential role in making the chiral bag model consistent and well-defined. We compute vacuum (one-loop) contributions to the baryon density as a regulated sum over quark eigenmodes. The sum is evaluated in straightforward numerical fashion and yields results for the moments of the baryon density which are in agreement with those of Jezabek and Heller.
Alternative linear chiral models for nuclear matter
1999
The equation of state of a family of alternative linear chiral models in the mean field approximation is discussed. We investigate the analogy between some of these models with current models in the literature, and we show that it is possible to reproduce very well the saturation properties of nuclear matter.
On the consistency of effective models of nucleon structure with chiral symmetry
Il Nuovo Cimento A, 1991
In this paper we show that the transparent SUe relation between the axial charge couplings GA and G~ of the n--* p, and n ~ 5 + weak transitions, respectively, allows us to control consistency with chiral symmetry of effective nucleon structure models within an accuracy comparable to that of the Adler-Weisberger sum rule. We derive a slightly modified expression for the (G,~/GA)2-ratio in terms of nucleons helicity and the axial charge coupling of the weak transition from the nucleon to the Roper resonance instead of the phenomenological mixing angle. We interpret the SUe-relation as a consistency condition between the weak couplings characterizing the Wigner and Goldstone modes of chiral symmetry and demonstrate its importance for several effective chiral models of nuclear structure.
