South Africa’s Parliamentary Diplomacy and the ‘African Agenda’ (original) (raw)
The paper examines South Africa's parliamentary diplomacy within the context of the African Agenda, exploring the challenges and developments of this relatively new diplomatic facet since the establishment of a democratic parliament in 1994. It highlights four key areas of focus in the parliament's international relations, including strengthening African partnerships and advancing multilateralism, and assesses the alignment between parliamentary diplomacy practices and the broader foreign policy rhetoric of the South African government. The analysis suggests that despite efforts to improve the efficacy of parliamentary diplomacy, significant opportunities for further development remain.
