LA MALACOFAUNA MARINA DE UN OPPIDUM IBÉRICO: LA BASTIDA DE LES ALCUSSES (MOIXENT, VALENCIA)

Preses petites i grups humans en el passat. II Jornades d’arqueozoologia. Museu de Prehistòria de València (2015): 155-180., 2015

In this paper we present the marine shells recovered in the Iberian oppidum of La Bastida de les Alcusses (Moixent, Valencia) (5th-4th centuries BC). Bivalves belonging to Glycymeridae and Cardidae families are the most common types. After undertaking their taxonomic classification and spatial distribution in the settlement we compare these results with other Iron Age contexts. An interpretation of the presence of marine shells in a site located around 100 km inland provided. According to their scarcity in the site and the fact that they are naturally smoothed -suggesting they were collected once the animal was dead- we can rule out that they were food remains. A small group of valves present human alterations -perforations- and we argue that they were amulets and personal ornaments, whereas smoothened shells may have been used as tools. However, because the vast majority does not have any traces of alterations, we explore an interpretation in terms of magic and symbolic objects of the households.

LA CERÁMICA DEL TOSSAL DEL MORO ( BENILLOBA, ALACANT) PRIMEROS RESULTADOS DEL ESTUDIO DE LOS FONDOS DEPOSITADOS EN EL CENTRE D´ESTUDIS CONTESTANS

ACTAS DO X CONGRESSO INTERNACIONAL A CERÂMICA MEDIEVAL NO MEDITERRÂNEO. SILVES, 2012
