Investigation of the self-efficacy and occupational attitude of students of the recreation Department of Tourism and Sport Sciences Faculties of Gazi and Atatürk Universities, Turkey, 2019

The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between students' attitudes towards the recreation specialty and self-efficacy of the students in the Recreation Departments of Sports Sciences and Tourism Faculty. In the study, "Occupational Attitude Scale" developed by Üstüner in 2006 and "General Self-Efficacy Scale" that was adapted to Turkish by Yildirim and İlhan and thereafter developed by Magaletta and Oliver were used. While the scope of the research comprised students studying in Recreation Department, Tourism Faculty, Gazi University and Recreation Department, Faculty of Sports Sciences, Atatürk University, the sample group consists of 79 females, 101 males, making a total of 180 students studying in these departments. It has been found that the data provide normality assumptions by looking at the Skewness-Kurtosis values. In this direction, parametric tests such as T Test and ANOVA were performed. Pearson correlation test was also performed to analyze the relationship between self-efficacy and occupational attitude. There is significant difference in terms of faculties of the participants, in terms of occupational attitude and self-efficacy students in favor of Faculty of Sport Sciences. There was also a positive relationship between occupational attitude and self-efficacy (r = 452). As a result, it can be said that they have higher occupational attitude because students of the Recreation Department at the Faculty of Sport Sciences have the opportunity to find more jobs than students of Recreation Department, Tourism Faculty. Also, the high level of self-efficacy of the students in the Faculty of Sports Sciences can be due to their sports knowledge.

INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF RECREATION AND SPORT SCIENCE, 2018

This study was conducted to determine the barriers to leisure time and motivation levels of university students, to compare them in terms of demographic variables and to determine the relationships between them. This study is a correlational survey model in which Leisure Time Motivation Scale and Barriers to Leisure Time Scale were used. The sample of the study consisted of 317 volunteers who study at Bartın University School of Physical Education and Sports. The statistical methods used for the evaluation of research data are frequency distributions, T-test for binary groups, ANOVA analysis for multiple groups and pearson correlation analysis for determining the relationship. The results of the study revealed that the perceptions of the participants about barriers to leisure time were above average and this was due to the perceptions of lack of relevant facilities and lack of sufficient time. Higher identification-introjection and knowing-succeeding dimensions were more significant in leisure time motivation levels. There was no relationship between barriers to leisure time and leisure time motivation levels. When the findings of the study were evaluated in terms of demographic variables, significant differences were determined for sex and age variables.

AN EXAMINATION OF UNIVERSITY STUDENTS’ ATTITUDES TOWARDS LEISURE ACTIVITIES

Pamukkale Journal of Sport Sciences

The aim of this study was to examine the university students’ attitudes towards leisure activities and to compare the participants' attitudes levels according to different variables. In total, 259 (Nfemale= 146; age=22.31, SD=2.80, Nmale =113; age=21.20, SD=2.21) university students that study in different universities in the Central Anatolia region participated in this study. “Leisure Attitudes Scale” (LAS) developed by Ragheb and Beard (1982) and adapted to Turkish by Akgül and Gürbüz (2010) was used in the study. The attitudes of the participants towards the leisure time activities are evaluated by the Likert type scale over 5. LAS is made up of 36 articles and 3 sub-dimensions such as cognitive (12), affective (12), and behavioral (12). In order to determine whether the attitude scores of the participants vary depending on the independent variables, t-test and MANOVA were used for independent groups in the analysis of the data. In the light of the findings of the study significant differences were detected in the attitude scores of the participants according to their sex and ages (p<.05). The scores of attitudes of the women and the participants between ages 18-22 are more on the positive side towards the leisure activities compared to the rest of the participants. Moreover, according to the results of the analysis, the attitudes of the individuals who take part in the physical activities are more positive than the one who do not. Overall, highest attitude scores of the participants towards leisure activities are on the cognitive aspect.

Pearson's product-moment coefficients were used to examine correlations between the factors. For determining the reliability of the scale Cronbach Alpha coefficient was calculated. Results: Analysis indicated that the Turkish version of the LFS constituted of 3 subscales and 16 items. Totally 11 items were excluded from the Turkish version because of lower factor loadings. Factor loading values of the items ranged between 0.49 and 0.76. Cronbach Alpha values were calculated as 0.79, 0.66, 0.78 and 0.86 for the subscales and total scale respectively. Conclusions: In conclusion, results indicated that "Leisure Facilitator Scale" Turkish adapted form can be used as a valid and reliable measurement tool to examine the factors that facilitate leisurely participation of students.

The Investigation of the Relationship between University Students' Levels of Life Quality and Leisure Satisfaction i

Universal Journal of Educational Research, 2019

The purpose of this research is to examine the relationship between university students’ levels of life quality and leisure satisfaction according to some demographic variables. 680 (429 men and 251 women) people studying at Bartın University participated in the research. In the research, “Personal Information Form” prepared by researchers, developed by Beard and Ragheb (1980) and Turkish adaptation was made by Karlı et al. (2008) “Leisure Satisfaction Scale: LSS” and developed by the World Health Organization and Turkish adaptation was made by Eser et al. (1999) “Quality of Life Scale Short Form: QLS” was used. In the analysis of the data; according to the demographic characteristics of the participants, t-test and ANOVA to investigate the differences between levels of life quality and leisure satisfaction; Pearson Correlation test was applied to examine relations between variables. In the findings of the research, there was no significant difference in the t-test results according to the “gender” variable in the LSS and QLS total score averages (p>0,05). There was no significant relationship between LSS and QLS total score averages according to “age” variables in the correlation test results (p>0,05). There was a significant difference in the “psychological” subscale of the LSS according to the “department” variable in the ANOVA test results (p˂0,05). This significant difference is between the physical education and sports teaching and the sport administration department, and it is in favor of the students of the physical education and sports teaching department. In the correlation test results, there was a significant positive and low level relationship between the “family income” variable and the QLS total scores (p˂0,05). There was a significant positive and low level relationship between the “personal income” variable and the total scores of LSS and QLS (p˂0,05). On the other hand, there was no significant relationship between the mean scores of LSS and QLS according to the variable “daily leisure time” (p>0,05). In addition, there was no significant relationship between the participants’ mean scores of LSS and QLS (p>0,05). As a result, variables such as family income and personal income were found to have an impact on participants’ levels of leisure satisfaction and quality of life, although there was no significant relationship between participants’ levels of leisure satisfaction and quality of life.
