BREAKING DOWN THE KNOWLEDGE BARRIER ON COST-BENEFIT FACTORS IN TODAY’S TECHNOLOGICAL ERA

EDULEARN 13 Conference, 2013

Delivering quality educational competence with reduced cost (e.g., reusability) continues to steer online educational initiatives. Scholars and the business sectors are striving to determine cost-savings, cost-benefits, and cost efficiencies of online education. Technology’s push on job advancements is energizing learners to seeking new knowledge, skills, abilities, and competencies in a rapidly changing technical climate. This information and technological period is intermingled in networked infrastructures within dynamic ecosystems. Distance education is altering the rules concerning the return-on-investment (ROI) since it requires planned engagements and investments, as it relates to online business enterprises. Although past data and performance can be used to modify ideas, different and innovative facts and documents must be evaluated to drive continuous process improvements. The goal is to electrify success that can be measured. This presentation will assess (1) aligning training with business objectives, (2) tracking and evaluating business results, and (3) the value of on-line investments in technology for training professionals (Burton, Bessette, and Brown-Jackson, 2013). Additionally, learning professionals will widen their knowledge base on why business values and organizational learning capabilities should be in partnership.

An Analysis of Career Building Tools for Online Adjunct Faculty: The Sustainable Effects of Adjunct Publishing

The value of adjunct online professors has gradually increased at many institutions. This increase of faculty also helps the reputation of the institution by adding professionals whose backgrounds create a diverse interest for department chairs and add collective data from several fields. Tenured faculty are known for their valuable publishing in top tier journals and their intellectual knowledge of various subjects. Published works assist online adjunct faculty in gaining and receiving various incentives that help them pursue advances within their departments. The main problem lies within certain incentives and how online adjunct faculty are able to advance based upon receiving these benefits. Online adjunct faculty currently does not receive the same incentives and benefits as that of tenured traditional faculty. This incentives and benefits problem causes variations that create negative bias against online adjunct faculty within academic departments. To assist professionals in terms of advancement and institutional reputation, publishing and receiving recognition is one of the most valued items that any one professional can receive. The main focus of this paper is to assist the audience‘s perception of the value of publishing in the academic arena through the lens of online adjunct faculty. The researchers will locate operational focal points requiring business process improvements that institutions can embrace to enhance incentives and performance of online adjunct faculty. Some of the focused items will be the following; conference reimbursement, quality of information collected, types of published work, reputation of journals, quality of published work, and how institutions can best use adjunct faculty members published works.

E-learning has shifted the way that students are engaging the workplace in vital ways. With employers requiring student to receive their graduate degrees for employment, it is essential that students learn the main skills and abilities during their education. The paper aims to compare selected frameworks of Education Evaluation with Kirkpatrick's framework to find common parameters. It was used an archival research of documentary secondary data. The paper is based on analysis of 14 frameworks in accordance of literature review. 17 distinguishable factors for educational evaluation were identified in qualitative research. The results show that most of analysed frameworks include, at a minimum, three of the four levels found in Kirkpatrick's framework. The paper includes some recommendations for better implementation of and achieving higher quality in educational evaluation. The paper shows that principles of Kirkpatrick model are still used for evaluation of Education. To increase quality of education it is suitable to measure the level of knowledge and skills prior to and after realisation of the training.

Best Practices in Corporate Universities

Training is critical to workforce development, contributes toward employee retention, and provides new skills that are required when agency missions expand. Nevertheless, few transportation agencies have addressed future workforce needs. In 2002, the National Transportation Workforce Summit, sponsored by the U.S. Department of Transportation, found that training expenditures in transportation agencies are insufficient and recommended annual investments of 2 percent of salaries. In recent years, the Maryland State Highway Administration (MSHA) has invested 1.5 percent of salaries toward education and training. Through the Transportation Education Development Pilot Program (TEDPP) grant, this best practices report in corporate universities examines the delivery mechanisms of training (e-learning, blended, and academy formats) and the efficacy of training delivery mechanisms for corporate universities within various private and public sector organizations and selected state highway adm...
