LANDUSE LAND COVER CLASSIFICATION - A GEOMATIC APPROACH (original) (raw)

In the present study, Kadam watershed has been considered. Eight rain gauge stations were identified in and around the study area and accordingly the sub basin has been divided into eight sub areas namely Khanapur, Kadam, Neredigonda, Boath, Ichoda, Utnoor, Indervelly, and Bazarhathnoor based on Thiessen polygon network in GIS environment. The satellite imagery pertaining to Indian Remote Sensing Satellite (IRS) P-6, LISS -III with a resolution of 23.5m has been used to prepare LU/LC map thematic map. Study area has been classified into five Land use/land cover classes viz., Water bodies, Crop land, Bare soil, Fallow land and Forest based on Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) approach. The areal extent of Water Bodies was computed as 1. 366, 2.257, 0.435, 5.489, 8.539, 0.121, 0.523, 1.514 sq km for Bazarhatnoor, Boath, Ichoda, Indervelly, Kadam, Khanapur, Neredigonda and Utnoor sub areas respectively. The areal extent of Cropland was computed as 49.951, 57.623, 94.533, 92.804, 17.693, 21.644, 64.566 and 58.811 sq.km for Bazarhatnoor, Boath, Ichoda, Indervelly, Kadam, Khanapur, Neredigonda and Utnoor sub areas respectively.
