Data collection techniques using test instruments in the form of multiple choice with 25 questions. The data analysis technique used in this study was the normality test, homogeneity test, and hypothesis testing. The results were tested using a paired sample test (t test) on the PBL learning model on problem-solving skills, the significant value...

Perceptions of Students about Problem Based Learning at the College Level in Faisalabad

Journal of Education and Social Studies

Problem-based learning is viewed as more effective than the traditional learning approaches usually practices at the college level. Therefore, this study was conducted to analyse the perceptions of college students about problem-based learning followed by its advantages and impacts on the students. A total of 120 college students were selected from the two colleges (Government Postgraduate College Samanabad and Government Postgraduate College of Science) in the Faisalabad District of Punjab province. Considering the proportionate sampling, a total of 52 and 68 students from the Government Postgraduate College of Science and Government Postgraduate College Samanabad were selected respectively. Data were collected from the students using a questionnaire and collected data were analysed using Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS). The students had a high level of knowledge that Problem-Based Learning (PBL) motivated them, had positive impacts on the communication and leadershi...

ACHIEVEMENT MOTIVATION AMONG ISLAMIC STUDIES STUDENTS AND ITS CORRELATION WITH PROBLEM BASED LEARNING AND SELF-EFFICACY

Journal of Nusantara Studies, 2023

Background and Purpose: Achievement Motivation defines motivation as a concept that forecasts the behavioural inclination to strive for success and performance based on a person's urge for achievement. The purpose of this study was to examine the link between academic self-efficacy and problem-based learning (PBL) and achievement motivation among students of Islamic studies. Methodology: A quantitative research design was used for this explanatory investigation. 578 undergraduate students from three institutions in Malaysia-UM, IIUM, and USIM-totaled took part in the study. The participants were chosen at random. Both descriptive statistics and regression analysis were used to analyse the data set. Additionally, an intergroup comparison analysis and the independent sample t-test were performed. Results: The results of an independent sample t-test showed a significant difference in the mean achievement motivation scores between students of applied Islamic studies (M = 3.31, SD =.41) and those of non-applied Islamic studies (M = 3.04, SD =.38). This difference is statistically significant at t (575) =-7.94, p =.00. When ASE was controlled, PBL's influence on AchM diminished (Sobel z= 3.83, p=0.00), indicating that ASE was the mediator of the relationship between PBL and AchM. F (7, 570) = 22.42, p .0005, adj. R2 =.206, multiple regression substantially predicted ASE. The outcome demonstrates that the method used to solve problems and the kind of programs used may both be effective predictors of students' academic self-efficacy in Islamic studies. Contribution: The study concludes that achievement has a big impact on students’ motivation. The findings of the study may contribute to the departments of Islamic studies and the Ministry of Higher Education in Malaysia (MoHE) in understanding the present issue of achievement motivation, as the ministry's goal is to increase students' self-efficacy. The study has implications on Islamic Studies students at higher learning institutions to boost their motivation.

Afghan Lecturers’ Perception of Problem-Based Learning: A Case Study of Takhar University

Journal of Problem-Based Learning

Problem based learning (PBL) is a teaching and learning approach that begins with a problem scenario in which students are required to identify a number of learning topics for further exploration and research. Students work in small groups to explore the solutions for the problem (Savery, 2015). One of the main features of PBL is that it allows and encourages several solutions (Camp et al., 2014). In PBL, students construct meaning through engagement in meaningful activities and interaction with their teachers and peers (Yew & Gew, 2016). According to Watson (2001), students work together to come up with solutions for problems, which help them acquire knowledge and develop their problem-solving, reasoning, communication and self-assessment skills. PBL creates a learning environment in which teachers coach students' thinking and guide their inquiry, which facilitates their deeper understanding of the subject matter (Torp & Sage, 2002). Azman & Shine (2012) argue that PBL lets students acquire an integrated body of knowledge from many different subject areas and it helps them develop their teamwork skills. Problem-based learning is a student-centered approach in which students take responsibility for their own learning and identify what they need to know in order to better understand and manage the problem presented in the learning event. Furthermore, they need to decide on where to obtain the required data (e.g., books, journals, tutorials, and websites) and evaluate their reliability. This allows students to personalize learning and focus on what is limited in their knowledge and understanding. In addition, learning occurs in small groups. Students work together in small groups to find a solution for a problem or an appropriate response to it

Transporting Problem Based Learning to the Gulf Cooperation Council Countries (GCC): Using Cultural Scripts to Analyze Cultural Complexities

Interdisciplinary Journal of Problem-Based Learning, 2021

The Urgency of Mastering Problem Solving In Islamic Education: a Study of Concepts and Educator Functions

Ta'dibuna, 2023

Problem-solving involves seeking information, analyzing situations, and identifying problems to generate alternatives so can make teacher decisions to achieve goals. This article aims to unravel the urgency of educators in mastering problem-solving in classroom learning. Using a conceptual approach, this qualitative descriptive research concludes that one of the functions of educators is to master one of the problem-solving models. One of the competencies of mastering problem solving is the ability to think critically as a tool in constructing knowledge during the learning process. With problemsolving, educators are able to produce school graduates who are proportional and thrive in the future fairly and equitably.
