Delirium triples mortality risk, however, rates are considerably higher in the setting of hypoactive delirium (Bui et al., 2017). Further complicating hypoactive delirium, survivors frequently have greater risk for long term cognitive impairment (Bush et al., 2017; Lipowski, 1983; van den Boogaard, Schoonhoven, van der Hoeven, van Achterberg, & Pickkers, 2012).
