QUALITY OF TEACHING - TEACHERS’ AND STUDENTS’ PERSPECTIVES

Efficiency, effectiveness and quality of educational institutions in Serbia are assessed through evaluation and self-evaluation based on the key areas set out in the Standards for the evaluation of the higher education institutions. Starting from the statement of Albert Einstein that “teaching should be such that what is offered is perceived as a valuable gift and not as a hard duty”, authors have developed a range of instruments and, among other things, examine the area of quality of teaching through the process of self-evaluation in Preschool Teacher Training College in Kikinda, Serbia. In this study is presented the research on the quality of educational process in Preschool Teacher Training College in Kikinda in Serbia, conducted in 2013 in which participated 177 students and 20 teachers. The main research focus: quality of educational process has been observed trough two additional aspects that are inseparable from the quality of teaching: grading system and learning effects. The research instrument is conceptualized on the basis of questionnaire that measure students’ and teachers’ perspectives on the quality of teaching, as two main groups in teaching process, with 11 items and five point Likert scale of answers. Questionnaires are distributed in two separate forms: for students and for teachers, with the aim of making the same content on the quality of teaching adaptable and comprehensible to two groups of examinees. The aim of this study is to explore do, and if so, how the students’ and teachers’ perspectives on the quality of teaching differ. The results show that there are differences in perspectives among students and teachers. Teachers evaluate the quality of teaching slightly higher than students. On the basis of these results, authors examine how the attitudes of academics and students about quality of teaching might offer a way of analyzing the relations between disciplinary knowledge practices and teaching learning interactions. For the purpose of analyzing the research results, authors adjusted Guskey’s model of five critical levels of professional development evaluation. The reason why we decide to use those methods is understanding of quality of teaching from systemic model of learning which emphasizes that what students learn and how teachers teach is part of a system, which is itself constrained by the subject discipline, the institution and ultimately by the government agenda. Keywords: quality of teaching, learning effects, grading system, research, higher education, students, teachers, self-evaluation.

How do you support motivation? 6. Which activities do you implement activities to improve quality of teaching process? Content analysis method was used, one of the qualitative data analysis. In the process of reporting the data, reliability was attempted to increase by quoting teachers’ opinions directly. Participants were coded as TE1, TE2… In order to increase reliability, two researchers randomly coded 5 open-ended questions; coefficient of coincidence was computed .76 by using “agreeing/agreeing & disagreeing” formula. Findings were organized under the seven themes: motivation, active student, teacher, providing permanent learning, features of teaching environment, method, technique and restraining student’s activity.

Muğla Sitki Koçman Üniversitesi'Ndeki Güneş Enerjisi Uygulamalari

Mugla Journal of Science and Technology, 2016

The purpose of this study is to evaluate a pedagogical formation program based on the opinions of the pre-service teachers taking it. The study group consists of 36 pre-service teachers from the departments of Turkish Language and Literature, German Language, Philosophy, Mathematics, History and Physics who are participating in the Pedagogical Formation Certificate Program of Muğla Sıtkı Koçman University, Turkey. The study was conducted by using the qualitative research method. A semi-structured interview form was developed by the researchers to collect the data. The preservice teachers' opinions about the pedagogical formation program were elicited through the focus group interview method. The collected data were analyzed through content analysis, one of the qualitative research techniques. The results of the analysis revealed that although the pre-service teachers think that giving formation education to the graduates of the Faculty of Science and Letters is positive, this education would be best given at the same time with their undergraduate education in an applied way. The most significant problems experienced by the pre-service teachers throughout the program were stated to be that the program is given over a very short timeframe, that traditional lecturing is adopted as the primary means of instruction and that a lot of information is tried to be given in a short time. Moreover, the pre-service teachers stated that the classrooms are very crowded and the education faculty does not have the required tools and equipment, which adversely affects the quality of the educational process. Finally, they stressed that the Public Personnel Selection Examination (KPSS) is quite inadequate to evaluate teachers' competencies and that an applicationbased evaluation would be better suited.
