The sample size comprised 184 respondents who were, 122 lower primary teachers, 47 ECDE teachers and 15 primary school Head teachers. Both Questionnaire and Interviews were used to collect data. The researcher ensured validity of questionnaires through expert judgment that is with the help of lectures from Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology. Moreover, the items in the questionnaire were made clearer and also arranged from simple to complex.Reliability of the instrument was tested using internal consistency and a reliability coefficient of 0.892 was reported. The quantitative data obtained from questionnaires was analysed by using descriptive statistics with the aid of Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 22.Qualitative data was analysed using the thematic framework. The study finding was that that intellectual development of ECDE learners was effectively assessed by written tests method of assessment. However, on the aspect of emotional development, most participants reported that written tests methods of assessment does not effectively assess emotional development of ECDE learners. The research design employed was concurrent triangulation design. The target population for the study was 234 lower primary school teachers, 90 ECDE teachers30 head-teachers and 3 DICECE officers, and a sample size of 186 participants was used.Stratified random sampling and purposive sampling techniques were used to select study participants. The instruments used in the study were questionnaires and interview schedules. Validity of the instruments was ensured by expert judgment of the university lecturers while the reliability was ensured by internal consistency and a reliability coefficient of 0.892 was reported. Trustworthiness of qualitative data was also ensured. Quantitative data was descriptively analysed by the use of percentages, frequency counts andmean while Qualitative data was analysed using Thematic Analysis. The study revealed that most teachers perceived observation method of assessment very effectiveand assess holistic development of the learners. The study examined the improvement and learning needs of children in primary schools. The study was carried out in Aguata Education Zone of Anambra State. Two research questions guided the study. The study adopted the descriptive survey design. A total sample size of 80 respondents (teachers) was drawn through simple random sampling technique. The researcher developed 20items structured questionnaire titled: Teachers' Assessment of Children Development and Learning (TACDL) used for data collection. The instrument was face validated by three experts from the Faculty of Education, University of Nigeria, Nsukka. A reliability coefficient of 0.70 was established for the instrument using Cronbach's Alpha method. Data collected were analyzed using mean and standard deviation to answer the research questions. The findings of the study showed that the aspect of children's cognitive development and learning were been mainly assessed by teachers at the primary school level while the psychomotor and affective domains of child's development are often ignored. The findings of the study also revealed that reading skills and recitation are often the priority areas of assessment. In view of these findings, it was recommended among others that government should organize regular assessment training workshops, seminars and conferences to train primary school teachers on assessment techniques that emphasize the development of the learning domains including the cognitive, psychomotive and affective domains of development.

Literacy Information and Computer Education Journal, 2010
A study on the status of Early Childhood Care and Education (ECC and E) in Botswana established an absence of a prescribed curriculum and a very low rate of formal training of the Early Childhood Education (ECE) teachers [4]. Thus, under the existing circumstances, it was necessary to find out the alternative training measures that were made available to the practicing ECE teachers and the existing classroom practices. This part of the study mapped the views of the teachers working in ECE centres, as demonstrated by their in-service training, classroom practices and. The study comprised of 39 teachers from 39 ECE centres in the neighbourhood. Their views were obtained from a semi-structured questionnaire. A quantitative approach was used for analysis of the data. The study found that around 60% of the in-service teachers attended ECE workshops as alternative training measures. However, it emerged from the study that the content of the workshops needed to be enriched. It also revealed that only 54% of teachers promoted holistic development that catered to physical, cognitive, emotional as well as social domains at tandem; and remaining promoted only a combination of some of the developmental aspects, neglecting some crucial ones completely at times. The findings also indicated that greater emphasis was laid on the development of physical aspect as compared to the other domains.
