The Influence of Supply Chain Agility on Operational Performance: the case of Ethiotelecom Supply Chain Division

Supply Chain Agility (SCA) is a very important factor for the success of the companies operating in the global markets in order to respond to the competitive challenges they face in the market and to use these capabilities to gain a competitive advantage over other companies. The main purpose of this study is to analyze the influence of supply chain agility on operational performance in the case of Ethiotelecom Supply Chain Division. The study also used probability sampling technique (i.e., simple random sampling method) and adopt descriptive research design to make the research fruitful. In addition, this study used multinominal regression model and other model fitting test to test the effects of the independent variable on the dependent variable and know the direction of the all variable. The result of the study indicated that the dependent variable of agility determinant factors such as flexibility, speed, responsiveness, competency, and collaboration have significant effects on Supply Chain operational performance. Regarding the correlation result and descriptive statics of the data from the respondent, the correlation between the speed and performance has insignificant mainly this is due to the response provided by the respondents is approached to disagree (i.e., Mean response of the speed is 2.9286) and the mean rate is less than the significance level with respect to the proportion of total mean result indicated in the descriptive test and needs improvement. Thus, is recommendable to Ethiotelecom supply chain division to improve the supply chain lead time and adopt an end-to-end supply chain Automation considering the repetitive changes of the customer needs and market competition. Role of Information Systems Competence in Supply Chain Agility in Service Industry Case of Technical University of Kenya

The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between information systems and supply chain agility in service industry. Using a sample of 96 (N= 96) top, middle and lower level staff of the Technical University of Kenya and a case study design, the research is conducted through interviews and survey by use of interview guides and questionnaires to collect data from the respondents. Interviews were carried out with top management in the supply chain and surveys from both the middle and lower level managers across Information systems and supply chain management-related departments. The data collected was analysed descriptively and inferentially using regression and confirmatory factors analyses through the Statistical Package for Social Sciences. The study was augmented by investigating the role of IS competence to achieve supply chain agility. A gap noted and filled by the study is that as to date most of the published literature in this stream of research has mainly focused on manufacturing industry leaving out the service industry. This research was an attempt to examine and analyze the use and value of IT enabled capabilities to promote supply chain agility in service industry. Agility capabilities are the strengths the firm needs in order to respond to the environment that are enabled through the agility providers of the organizations, people, technology and innovation. The study findings concurred with the views of most scholars that Information Systems (IS) have rapidly reshaped business processes and supply chain agility as an operational strategy, has been especially affected. From the F statistic test value of 26.551 and a small significance value of 0.000 that is P = 0.000 > α = 0.05, indicates that there is a regression relationship between the dependent variable (supply chain agility) and the predictor variables. For instance the study supports the importance of information systems service competence based on low response time to IS problems to enhance speed and efficiency and management skills based on network management enhancing collaborative abilities, data centre management to enhance virtual integration and contributing to quick service delivery in the context of supply chain agility. The R Square value of 0.956 shows that the variables account for 95.6% of the change in supply chain agility. From findings it can be concluded that IT Service Competence affects supply chain agility more in the institution followed by IT Services Management Skills as measured by the various items under each predictor.

International Review of Management and Marketing A Relational Study of Supply Chain Agility and Firms' Performance in the Services Providers

The link between agile supply chain dimensions and business performance in the Iranian service industry is assessed in this study. A questionnaire covering important agility criteria identified in the literature was designed and administered to a sample of 420 managers and users of supply chain in service providers. The response rate achieved was 16%. Validity and reliability were statistically tested. Line regression analysis was also used and all tests confirm normal distribution of data. By testing the full supply chain related with agile practices, the findings indicated there was a significant connection between supply chain agility and business performance such as user satisfactions, information systems and advertisement.

The Role of Agility in the Effect of Trust in Supply Chain on Firm Performance

Emerging technologies and innovative developments cause the supply chain management to change dramatically. Therefore the subjects regarding trust have become important. Trust established in Supply Chain causes effective relationships among definitive numbers of suppliers in the long-run. The effect of trust in supply chain on firm performance and the contribution of agility to this relation have been supported in the literature. In this research, the role of agility in the effect of trust in supply chain on firm performance will be investigated. According to the results of hypotheses tests, there are positive and significant relations between supply management integration and trust in supply chain, between trust in supply chain and supply chain agility, and between supply chain agility and firm performance.

IT CAPABILITIES ON SUPPLY CHAIN PERFORMANCE: MEDIATING ROLE OF SUPPLY CHAIN AGILITY

The purpose of this paper is to investigate the IT capabilities affecting supply chain performance, explore the relationship among those identified capabilities to supply chain performance and, explore the mediating factors to the relationship with special reference to large manufacturing organizations in Sri Lanka. Systematic random sampling technique was applied as the sampling technique of the study. 200 questionnaires were distributed among executives in large manufacturing organizations to collect the primary data and 160 were used for the analysis. Gathered data were analyzed by SPSS software. Findings: Under the IT Capabilities, Flexible IT Infrastructure and IT Assimilation have a weak positive relationship with supply chain performance while strong positive relationship with supply chain agility. Supply chain agility has a direct strong positive relationship with supply chain performance and it is mediating the relationship between IT capabilities and Supply Chain Performance. 141 importance of considering supply chain agility as a mediator rather than using only IT applications or infrastructure. No research can be found in Sri Lankan context that explore the factors affecting IT capabilities and Supply chain performance relationship. Practical Implications: Future studies are possible to conduct surveys in different angles using various control variables. Comparison of factors between different industries will provide more insights for the practitioners and as well as the researchers on the study variables.

Alignment of dimensions towards modelling organisational supply chain agility

In the present reporting, the concept and the application of factor analysis (FA) to achieve effective dimensions on organisational supply chain agility has been explained. FA is a statistical approach through which the number and nature of variables, which measure the test, are clarified. FA is generally performed by combining different variables together, thereby, obtaining a few variables called as an individual factor/dimension. This method determines interrelationship among analysis data and reduces total number variables into less number of factors/dimensions for simplicity. In the case study in an Indian automobile sector in order to define effective factors describing organisational supply chain agility, on the basis of conceptual model, a questionnaire has been compiled. The survey data obtained thereof, has been analysed by descriptive statistics and all variables have been categorised finally into 13 factors (dimensions) through exploratory factor analysis (EFA). This would facilitate in estimating organisational overall agility extent and various managerial decision-making. She has more than two years of experience in teaching and one year in industry. Her area of interest includes industrial management, quality engineering and agile manufacturing.
