Simulation of Existing Water Distribution Network by using EPANET: A Case Study of Surat City
Water is the basic need of all living being of world. Demand of water is increase day by day. Water supply system is a system of engineered hydraulic and components which provide water supply. For the development of nation, water distribution network are very important for development of an area as they serve many purposes in addition to provision of water for human consumption. The water distribution network plays a virtual role in preserving and providing desirable life quality to the public, of which reliability of supply is the major component. It is difficult to provide safe water to the rural people in sufficient quantity, quality and at satisfactory pressure head with achieving economy constraint. EPANET software is used to design and analyze the multi village supply system with reference to technical sustainability. EPANET is computer program that performs extended period simulation of hydraulic behavior within pressurized pipe network. The study presents the hydraulic analysis of pipe line network of Punagam area near Surat city using EPANET 2.0. The area has 600.83 Ha area and 2, 22,252 Population (2016). Source supplies water to city by 109 junction having 144 Pipes divided in two different zones. The water from this source is taken via network of pipes to the GSR (Ground Services Reservoir) across the area. The water from these GSR is then pumped to the Adjacent ESRs (Elevated Storage Reservoirs) during the supply hours and water is supply to the area by gravity. Simulation has been carried out for hydraulic parameter such as had pressure and flow rate. The result obtained verified that the pressure at all junction and the flows with their velocities at all pipes are feasible enough to provide adequate water to the network of study area. The findings will help to understand the pipelines system of the study area in a better way. The study also deals with the future demand of the area.

STUDY OF WATER DISTRIBUTION NETWORK USING EPANET
Pipe network analysis is the fluid flow through a hydraulics network containing several or many inter connected branches whose aim is to determine the flow rates and pressure drops in the individual sections of the network. Classical approach for automatically solving the problems of network is by using specialized software such as EPANET. The purpose of this study is to assess the performance of Limbayat zone water supply scheme using hydraulic simulation software and to address any improvements required to existing infrastructure and/or the mode of operation, in order to improve quantity and quality of water distributed to the consumers. As, Limbayat zone is facing water scarcity problem. The reason behind this scarcity is the pressure fluctuation. There is large variation in pressure head and the pressure supplied is not sufficient to fulfil the requirement of water demand of Limbayat zone. There may be leakages in the pipes which results in the pressure difference which consequently results into the scarcity of water.
Continuous Water distribution Network Analysis Using Epanet in Ambaji, Gujarat State, India
IRJET, 2022
The current study, titled "Continuous Water Distribution Network Analysis Using Epanet Software in Ambaji: A Case Study of Ambaji," was conducted with the express goal of effective design, development, and analysis of water distribution networks and systems using EPANET software. The current data on the water distribution system was obtained from the Ambaji taluka Panchayat for this investigation. Three methods were used to forecast Ambaji's population for the following three decades: Arithmetic Increase Method, Geometric Increase Method, and Incremental Increase Method. The expected population's water requirement for the following three decades was also calculated. The elevation of nodes and pipe length were recorded for 148 nodes and an equal number of pipes using a Google Earth image of Ambaji. The findings of data analysis in EPANET Software revealed that there is less head loss, which is critical for maintaining the constant pressure required for Ambaji's continuous water supply system.

Dire Dawa, the second largest city of Ethiopia, was facing about the distribution system adopted for supplying clean water. It was being observed that an intermittent type of supply with main and secondary distribution pipes. It was observed that, the current water demand has surpassed the present existing supply about 65%. Hence, in order to provide sufficient quantity and good potable water with continuous (24 X 7) water supply for various sectors of study area: Sabiyan region, Dire Dawa, Ethiopia, was selected. Also, Dire Dawa Water Supply & Sewerage Authority has taken a strong decision in order to validate and examine the existing water distribution network for improved water supply. On the other hand, the main important factor which effects the validation is that the age of pipes and other accessories in present existing network were longstanding. Therefore, to avoid the leakage losses and various problems encountered with the present system, a detailed is study is conducted and the analysis is carried out using EPANET tool to design for continuous water supply. After thorough analysis by considering future concerns, it was suggested that, two GLSRs of each with 2.7 Mm 3 capacity may be provided in order to meet the future demands. The tanks are provided at required elevation to ensure that the water flows in all pipes of the network efficiently. Based on the output it was observed that the diameter of pipes from the existing system ought to be revised. Additionally, other parameters which effect the network like frictional losses, velocity of flow in the pipes, residual head and pressure at nodes were also examined thoroughly by the use of different tools like WaterGEMS and Auto CAD in addition to EPANET.

Fulfilment of drinking water needs is one of the government programs to support the achievement of the target of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). One of the important parameters in the fulfilment of drinking water needs is a good distribution system. The aims of this research are to create a design to analyse the hydraulic model of drinking water distribution. The utilized model involved the EPANET 2.0 software. The utilized data included land elevation, pipe distribution base map, population, and discharge. The results indicated that the existing design has not fulfilled the standards of availability, hydraulics analysis, and calibration. Therefore, there needs to be a redesign that fulfils all parameters. The results of the new design requires a two-stage development process for the new water distribution system, with the first stage to be executed in 2015-2020 and the second stage to be executed in 2020-2025. Hydraulic analysis shows that additional discharge is needed to increase pressure and velocity. Model calibration was performed by comparing simulated data with field data; the result of pressure calibration is 0.928 and the result of discharge calibration is 0.894. These two results indicated that the results of the simulation are highly correlated with the field conditions.
