An experimental study for the performance assessment of the DNS server architecture on IPv6 network
World Journal of Advanced Research and Reviews
In this paper, an experimental investigation is conducted to study the performance of the educational research domain name system (ER-DNS) hierarchical server network which works on internet protocol version 6 (IPv6) only, instead of the publicly available dual stack DNS root servers on the internet. There is a high probability of making the entire internet system unstable if any changes are made. Thus, we have created the experimental testbed, which functions similar to the existing live internet systems. It thus gives more flexibility to experiment and make technical and operational changes, without risking the stability and reliability of the internet system. In this paper, we have setup the entire DNS hierarchy starting from the root to the recursive servers with the top level domain (TLD) and domain authoritative name servers has been setup. This setup enables the queries to flow from the end user recursive servers to the domain authoritative server via the root as well as the ...
AN EMPIRICAL STUDY ON INTERNET PROTOCOL IPV6 IN NETWORKING
The internet protocol IPv4 has met requires for years, but the number of addresses, while huge is finite. It has several shortcomings which are unavoidable and complicate such exhausted address space, security issues, non-availability of auto-configuration and in some cases present a obstacle to, the advance improvement of the Internet. The resolution to mitigate this problem was the development of the new IPv6 protocol which enlarges the address space from 32-bits to 128-bits. IPv6 assembles a high address space, superior address design and better safety among other profits. IPv6 distribution necessitates deep and careful firm to minimize network disruption and ensure that the profits of IPv6 are accessed. Due to the issues of IPv4, now-a-days IPv6 is extremely popular in associations, corporations and Internet Service Providers (ISP). In this paper, we aim to provide a Literature Survey which describes the various techniques to implement IPv6 transition most optimal method to increase the network performances.
A Survey of IP Address for Next Generation Internet Services
2016
This paper surveys the problem of the astronomical growing demand of Internet Systems participating in the public network which has led to the depletion of allocated Internet Protocol version 4.0 (IPV4) addresses. Already, four out of the Regional Internet Registry (RIR) namely: ARNIC, RIPE, LACNIC and ARPIN have exhausted their allocated IPV4 addresses while the fifth AFRICNIC (Africa’s RIR) is reportedly depleted. We also examine the limitations of IPV4, the features of IPV6 and different modes of operating IPV6 standard. Findings shows that the current population of the world is over 6billion people with a projection of 9billion people by the year 2050 and IPV6 can conveniently accommodate 2 128 devices. This paper also proposes the migration from the present Internet Protocol version 4.0(IPV4) to a new Internet Protocol version 6.0(IPV6) addresses. This research work has shown that deploying the IPV6 could only be the possible solution to sustaining Internet Services globally.
Software and Hardware Enhancements to Support IPV6
International Journal of Advanced Research in Computer Science and Software Engineering
Internet Protocol Version 4 (IPV4) has been the standard Internet Protocol which provides the addressing scheme for the existing Internet. Internet has grown beyond reaches and has exceeded the scope which it was initially built for. With the advent of Modern technologies and Research in areas such as IoT, cloud computing, Big Data etc., Internet is not restricted to usage for email communication. Users of Internet have grown across the globe and the purpose of Internet has had a paradigm shift. End users are identified with the aid of IP addresses and the vast growth in the end user has led to exhaustion of these addresses. The problem of address exhaustion was identified in the early 1995 and a solution to this problem was provided by the invention of new addressing scheme called the Internet Protocol Version 6 (IPV6) formerly called as the IP next generation. The applications and tools which were developed to use and have in built dependency on the earlier IPV4 addressing scheme will have to be now scaled to include the new addressing scheme. This paper proposes solutions for making the applications compatible with IPV6 addressing scheme realizing the software dependencies of applications on IPV4.
Review of IPv4 and IPv6 and various implementation methods of IPv6
IRJET, 2022
Presently, approximately 25 billion people are connected worldwide, and these networks are connected through routers. IPv4 had some deficiencies like Address depletion problem, Lack of Encryption, and authentication of data features, which led to the development of IPng/IPv6. The development of IPV6 and deployment of the same is in process worldwide using various deployment techniques. These techniques enable the upgradation of networks to IPv6 deployed networks with little or no intervention of IPv4 services. Greater deployment efforts from a number of small networks could result in an increasing measure of global IPv6 deployment.
Comparitive Study on IPV4 and IPV6 Internet Protocol
As we know daily many devices are manufactured which need an IP address to get connected to internet. IPv6 is known as next generation IP which is currently being used at few places and still more research are going on in this region, this paper contains the comparison between the two IP address schemes namely IPv4 and IPv6. The header formats and performance parameters of the both scheme are discussed. Also th e benefits of IPv6 over IPv4 is discussed in brief .
A Survey on Next Generation Internet Protocol: IPv6
International Journal of Electronics and Electrical Engineering, 2014
IPv4 is the most dominant addressing protocol used on the Internet and most private networks today. With the advent of wide variety of devices and upcoming technologies, the limited addresses of IPv4 are not able to cope with the current internet. IPv6 was mainly developed to resolve the addressing issues as well the security concerns which are lacked by IPv4. One of the major challenges in the internet is to deploy IPv6. In the transition to IPv6, both IPv6 and IPv4 will co-exist until IPv6 eventually replaces IPv4. In this paper an attempt is being made to enlighten the importance of IPv6 in current scenario and the key reasons to deploy the IPV6, and also discusses the standards and techniques which are required for smooth interoperation between the two protocols.
Internet Protocol version 6 Overview
2005
IP stands for “Internet Protocol” and it was designed during the ‘70s with the purpose of interconnecting heterogeneous network technologies. IP was a huge success, and made it possible to create today’s Internet. Currently, the Internet is predominantly using the fourth version of IP (IPv4), however the huge success of the Internet is pushing IPv4 to its limits. The Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) designed IPv6 to become the replacement for IPv4. IPv6 solves most of the major problems of IPv4 and has several new features. This paper presents an overview of the IPv6 protocol, discussing its operation, its addressing architecture, its header format, the neighbor discovery protocol and one of the major issues of IPv6: how to transition from IPv4; presenting a set of transition mechanisms that provide communication between IPv4 and IPv6.
A Comparative Study on IPv4 and IPv6
Abstract__ The addresses of Internet protocol (IP) are a vital resource for the Internet. In the network, IP address is assigned to every interface which connects to the Internet. The addresses are still assigned by using Internet Protocol version 4 (IPv4). IPv4 has demonstrated robust, compatibility with vast range of protocols, applications and easy implementation. IPv4 had been supposed to cover all the network interfaces, however with huge increase of the number of devices (computer, mobile, tablet, routers, server, etc) the reserve of assigned addresses is exhausted. IPv6 has been deployed for providing new services and for supporting the internet growth. This study compares the key specifications of IPv4 and IPv6, contrasts IPv4 and IPv6 header’s fields, the structure of headers, explains advantages of IPv6 and disadvantages of IPv4, and why we are running out of IPv4
