L'Artémision d'Épidamne-Dyrrhachion. Cinquante ans de recherches 1970-2020 (2022)
French version of the synthesis published in Albanian in the journal Iliria 43 (2020), pp. 217-252. Of the 70 years of activity that Albanian archaeology celebrates in this volume, five decades are covered by the discovery and study of the sanctuary on Dautë hill in Durrës (ancient Epidamn-Dyrrhachion) and its exceptional finds. Since 1970, this research has accompanied the changes in methods, themes and interpretations of Albanian archaeology, leading to new and better argued results. At the beginning, the study of the finds from the sanctuary was not very encouraging: an old excavation whose documentation was partly lost, an overabundant, repetitive and unpleasant material, difficult material conditions. Nevertheless, it led to some major results in the fields of topography, with the identification of the Artemision landmark on the outskirts of the ancient city, of its religious life, with the description of a votive system in relation with the functions of the goddess, and even of its economic life, with the characterisation of the city's craft and commercial activities.
