Factors Causing Foreign Language Anxiety (Fla) in Speaking

This research attempted to find out the factors causing foreign language anxiety in speaking. This research was carried out by employing descriptive quantitative design. The population of this research was the third semester students of English Education Study Program of University of Bengkulu in academic year 2017/2018. The samples of this research were taken by using total sampling tehcnique, i.e 79 students. The data were collected by questionnaire consisted of 29questions related to the anxiety. The results of this study showed that the students mostly had the anxiety. There were three factors that causing the anxiety of the students in speaking; Test Anxiety (Mildly Affected; Mean Score: 3.09), Fear of Negative Evaluation (Mildly Affected;Mean Score: 3.00), and Communication Apprehension (Mildly Affected; Mean Score: 2.90). Anxiety may either have negative or positive impacts on one’s learning process. It is possible that anxiety may deteriorate the quality of learning process by making the learner intellectually and psychologically disturbed. In other cases, anxiety may increase students’ learning motivation due to the feeling of pressure. This study aimed to investigate the factors that contribute to students’ foreign language anxiety and its impacts on their speaking competency. The participants are university students taking English Conversation Class. Classroom observations were done to evaluate students’ speaking performance. Secondary and High School Students’ Speaking Anxiety: A comparative Study

This study aims to explore the weather or not the learners in Erenköy Lychee experience foreign language classroom anxiety in the process of foreign language learning. The study involved a sample group of language learners who were studying both in secondary and high school of Erenköy Lychee. The Foreign Language Classroom Anxiety Scale (Horwitz, 1986) was administered to the learners. The outcome of the questionnaire provided quantitative and qualitative data. The participants involved 100 students who volunteered in 2013-2014 academic year. The study intended to investigate the level of anxiety experienced by foreign language learners at the Erenköy Lychee. In addition, the study considered the role of anxiety in language learning. The first research question intended to examine the level of anxiety experienced by students who were studying in Erenköy Lychee. Moreover, the study examined the factors which reinforce anxiety. In general the study intended to find out whether students in Erenköy Lychee feel anxious in communication activities or not. The second research question intended to investigate the major stressors which provoke anxiety. The third research question investigates how these factors affect speaking anxiety. * For the secondary school students, their peers in the classroom are the most anxiety provoking factors but for high school students, communication activities are the major cause of anxiety.
Learners’ foreign language speaking anxiety: a tertiary level scenario in EFL class

This research is concerned with Bangladeshi learners’ anxiety of speaking English at tertiary level classrooms. In this paper, the researcher tried to find out the factors responsible for speaking anxiety of the learners, the effects of the anxiety and the ways to reduce anxiety. A survey has been conducted among language teachers and learners from a few selected private universities in Dhaka to find out about the various factors that are responsible for creating anxiety. The researcher followed quantitative questionnaire methods for data collection. The survey results showed that all of the factors presented in the questionnaire were responsible for creating learners’ English speaking anxiety and their personal, social and academic context have been badly affected due to this speaking anxiety. Dealing with the Students' Foreign Language Anxiety in Speaking Course
One major failure in mastering speaking skill was caused by Foreign Language Anxiety (FLA). Thus this present study aimed at investigating Foreign Language Anxiety of English Education Department's students. This study belonged to descriptive study in which the participants involved were 70 out of all EED's students in the second semester in the academic year of 2014-2015. The data was collected through administering FLCAS questionnaires and it was described qualitatively. The results showed that students' FLA ranged from poor to very high where the highest amount (46 students) was in high category. However, there were some solutions for both lecturers and students to conduct to reduce the students' FLA. Based on the above results, it can be concluded that the FLA's amount of EED's students was high and it should be decreased by implementing some solutions.
Analyzing Types and Levels of Students’ English-Speaking Anxiety

This research was aimed to analyze and describe the types and levels of students' English-speaking anxiety in foreign language learning activities to get broadened understanding of this phenomenon. This study was categorized as descriptive quantitative research. It was conducted at the English Education Department of Muhammadiyah University of Prof. Dr. HAMKA. The participants were the second-semester Students of the Transactional Listening and speaking class. The questionnaires that were given to the participants consisted of 33 statements and were based on FLCAS and adapted from Horwitz and Cope (1986) to find out the dominant types and levels. Factors determining foreign language speaking anxiety: A study on high school students

Numerous factors are known to significantly impact the process of learning a foreign language. These factors can influence learners' attitudes toward language learning, whether positively or negatively. It is essential for educators and trainers to take into account students' emotions and consider various factors in the teaching and learning of foreign languages. Recognizing the crucial role emotions play in language acquisition, this study aims to assess the level of foreign language speaking anxiety among 228 high school students, selected using purposive sampling, and to identify the factors influencing their anxiety. Data was gathered through the Foreign Language Speaking Anxiety Scale and demographic questions. The findings indicate that the participants experienced moderate levels of anxiety. Both descriptive and inferential statistics demonstrated that students' interest for English, prior experience abroad, and interest in English outside of academic requirements had a statistically significant impact on their foreign language speaking anxiety. The study also identified specific in and outclass activities that influenced anxiety levels. The most popular in-class activities included games, watching movies/short videos, songs, and pair/group work. Outside the classroom, students stated that they mostly engaged in listening to songs, watching movies with subtitles, and playing games in English. In conclusion, the research emphasizes the significance of personal factors together with in and out-of-class dynamics influencing students' anxiety while speaking a foreign language.

Foreign language classroom anxiety is an important barrier to successful language learning, so communication apprehension can impede student achievement in language learning negatively. This article aims to explore the impacts of foreign language classroom anxiety on pupils at a secondary school in Istanbul. A questionnaire in which 100 respondents participated was conducted with a view to identifying their perceptions of foreign language classroom anxiety experienced. In the light of the findings discovered, nearly fifty percent of learners feel that foreign language classroom anxiety has a negative effect on their oral performance. Unwillingness to communicate in English is a common issue most respondents have raised.
