Decentralized Food Supply Bazar Using Blockchain

Blockchain is an expanding piece of technology helping us in designing and development of decentralized distributed solutions. It has impacted many industries by reducing intermediate authorities. So, we decided to explore its feasibility in the Food supply industry. The Food Agro sector has been responsible for several catastrophes, and as the industry expands globally it is strenuous to keep check and credence of and certify the food data. The fertile land for agriculture is diminishing and more yields need to be produced to content the need of the country. We propose a Blockchain based Decentralized market place where we implement a collaborative agro model between farmers and consumers. The farmers will be able to record the potential crops and the anticipated output on his farm land on the decentralized ledger. The consumers can check the information and the farmer integrity based on the previous supplies. This creates a far open and full proof digital market framework for agro-products and will help to reduce hoarding. This research paper explores one possible model of blockchain in the Food Supply Market by creating a breach proof ledger of records. We have used HTML, CSS, Javascript for frontend, Ethereum and Solidity based frameworks for backend working of this model.
Agriculture Food Supply Chain Management using Blockchain Technology
Agriculture is the primary source of livelihood for about 58 percent of Indias population. Agriculture supply chain is further complicated by fragmented inbound and outbound networks.It consists of multiple agents or intermediaries tapping into the marketing channel to realize a profit and successfully pass on the losses to the producer. Agricultural producers are facing multiple obstacles, from seasonal changes to the broken supply chain also their occupation is very laborious and demanding. Most of the losses produced here are due to misinformation, miscommunication and lack of trust between the different tiers. The proposed system uses blockchain technology which facilitates the transfer of data or useful information in a decentralized and transparent manner. The proposed system can have various nodes; shares information with them in the form of blocks. Each block is associated with hash value and contains transaction information verified by each node in the supply chain. The proposed system uses smart contract i.e. agreement between different parties that executes automatically without Third-party interference, which helps to build trust and transparency between them.
Blockchain for agriculture and food
This report documents experiences and findings from the public private partnership (PPP) project 'Blockchain for Agrifood' that was started in March 2017. The project aims to contribute to a better understanding of the blockchain technology (BCT) and its implications for agrifood, especially how it can impact specific aspects of supply chains and what is needed to apply BCT in agrifood chains. A second aim of this project is to conceptualise and develop a proof of concept in an application based on a use case concerning table grapes from South Africa where BCT could be applied. This has been done by building a demonstrator that keeps track of different certificates involved in the table grapes supply chain. The code of this demonstrator is published at Github. 1 Furthermore, the project explored issues regarding the relevance, applicability and implications of BCT for the agrifood sector through literature study and stakeholder consultation.

Farmer to Consumer – an Online Supply Chain Process System Using Blockchain Technology

Globally, the mango industry is one of the largest industrial sectorsalso considered the backbone industry of the country's agriculture sector. This sector mobilizes key industrial activities of many economies, such as agriculture, production, handling, storage, logistics, certification, and packing of a variety of mangoes (e.g., with over 1,500 varieties, of which at least 30 are grown commercially in Pakistan). From local, regional, and national, to international levels, many businesses in this sector are involved in extensive mango supply networks fulfilling the demands of many consumers and markets (e.g., B2B, B2C, etc.) locally worldwide. Currently, 43% of total farmers in Pakistan are smallholder farmers, as they possess less than 2.6 hectares of land. Intermediaries dominate the entire supply chain in Pakistan, due to which small to average farmers face several challenges. This can be avoided by developing a user-friendly system to link farmers directly to the market or consumers. The proposed system identifies the gaps in the process model of Pakistan's mango supply chain system. It creates a platform to link farmers directly to the market or consumers through a seamless online system using blockchain technology for performing reliable transactions using smart contracts. The proposed system is implemented through Ethereum, a permissioned blockchain network using Smart Contracts. It is a distributed ledger accessible to participants of the supply chain with permission to ensure the trust and authenticity of the information. By using this system, the farmers will attain increased profit through direct access to retailers, consumers, and the international market.

The asymmetry in the information pertaining to agricultural supply chain is extremely evident in developing countries like India. Also, the entity worst affected by this asymmetry are the farmers, who do not receive their fair share of in spite of being the most crucial contributors to this food cycle. Moreover, dealing with specific agricultural produce which h ave a short shelf life becomes a complex task with higher rate of wastage every year. With the help of a distributed ledger system in place, we help track the agricultural produce supply chain in every part of the country by replacing whatever supply chain tracking or centralized record keeping mechanism is already in place to provide complete transparency of the lifecycle of produce and enabling faster transactions between nodes and in turn helping the farmers reap the best benefits of their hard work. This would bring complete transparency in nodes where the efficiency is lost, parti cularly, brokers, distributors, regulators, retailers, government departments, etc., Easy and accurate access to this information will improve the overall efficiency of the supply chain and in turn benefit all the entities involved equally.

Blockchain technology is gaining interest in a number of agricultural applications. These technologies may meet a range of needs in the agricultural product ecosystem, such as enhancing food protection and supply chain reliability, provenance traceability, smart contract trade performance, and transaction efficiency. As a result of the numerous untrustworthy parties involved, such as small-scale producers, food processors, logistic firms, dealers, and retailers, achieving an optimum trade-off between productivity and credibility of agricultural management systems as needed in contexts becomes critical. In this project, we will establish a blockchain-based framework for the agricultural sector. From the farmer to the producer, an agricultural supply chain follows a farm commodity. Since the existing supply chain is so intertwined, blockchain can be used to restore customer and supplier confidence. Blockchain will totally erase layers in the supply chain, allowing producers to partner directly with merchants to raise revenue for both parties for specific crops in specific regions.We will also explore the key obstacles that many future agricultural systems face, as well as the attempts and possible solutions that have been made to address these issues. We should also add a lot of items that will benefit both farmers and consumers.
