Psychometric properties of the Thai Mental Health Literacy Scale in sixth-year medical students (original) (raw)

Abstract

Background: Mental health literacy reduces stigma and the risk of developing mental disorders along with increasing help-seeking behavior. The aim of this study was to translate and study both the psychometric properties of the Thai Mental Health Literacy Scale (TMHLS) and the mental health literacy in sixth-year Thai medical students of the Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Bangkok. Methods: Two-hundred and fifty participants were enrolled using the convenience sampling method. Descriptive statistics were used to analyze demographic data and mental health experiences. Inferential statistics were applied to compare sources of mental health experiences. The content validity and reliability by internal consistency of the TMHLS was analyzed by Index of item objective congruence (IOC) obtained from the examination of three experts in mental health field and Cronbach’s Alpha, respectively.
