The data collected from the questionnaire were analyzed separately for approaches employed by the father and mother. It was seen that the correlation coefficient between anxiety level and father’s aggression is 0.274, which indicated direct proportionality, demonstrating the relationship between those factors. This was with statistical significance of 0.013. The correlation coefficient between anxiety level and fathers’ adequacy is -0.313, which indicates indirect proportionality indicating the negative relationship between those factors. This was with statistical significance of 0.016. When the same approaches followed by the mothers were considered the results obtained were very similar. Parental Authority Questionnaire (Babree, 1997) and Early Adolescents Temperament Questionnaire (Ellis & Rothbart, 2001) were used to collect the information from the participants. Sample of the current research consisted of adolescents (N = 194) belonging to 7 th , 8 th , and 9 th classes. Multiple Regression analysis was applied to test the hypotheses. The results indicated that maternal authoritative parenting style had significant positive effect on emotion regulation. Maternal permissive parenting style had significant negative effect on emotion regulation. Similarly authoritative paternal parenting style had significant positive effect on emotional regulation whereas paternal permissive parenting style had significant negative effect on emotion regulation. However, results on the maternal and paternal authoritarian parenting style were non-significant. In this study, the researcher contacted with 8 th grade school students with the age 13 to 14 years of Bengali families in Kolkata with monthly family income of Rs. 10,000-50,000/-per month. Besides, candidates whose selected prototype (the dominant one; selected on the basis of highest obtained score in a particular prototype among different prototypes such as permissiveness, authoritarianism and authoritativeness) differed in scales for father and mother were also not considered. An assurance was made that the selected participants did not suffer from chronic physical and mental disturbances. Results showed that the mean values for both anxiety sensitivity and test anxiety were maximum in case of authoritarian parenting style and the difference between male and female was not significant both for perception of stress and test anxiety. Results further showed that the 8 th grade students differed significantly in anxiety sensitivity and test anxiety with the variation in parenting styles. Overall, this study indicated that the parenting style which regards autonomy and consider a rational approach is most preferred one.
