Code of Professional Ethics: An Empirical Study of Professional Code of Ethics among Professional Educators

The term ethics is derived from the Greek word “ethos” which means custom or character. Ethics is a set of moral principles that governs the person’s conduct, behavior, character, fairness, humbleness, morality, values, commitment, duties to self improvement to the society at large, and his obligation to the profession, to the institution and the society at large. Every profession has a different professional Ethics. Teaching is a noblest profession .teacher work as role model .teacher work as Nation builder and even a teacher have power to change the whole scenario of life of a student. The Main objective of this paper is to find out current challenges and status of professional Ethics among Professional Educators. Now day’s Education Sector become highly commercializes and a lot of Changes occurred, still the profession maintains their Dignity from ancient time to till present Era. Due to less working hour and less responsibilities in comparison of corporate sector it becomes most deserving sector among young champ. So how much they justify with their students is also tested in this study.

In present article authors focuses on the most important factor of teaching profession i. e. Professional ethics of teachers. It is a code of conduct of teacher that he shoulders of being an important part of society. Professional ethics are nothing but an interaction between a professional individual and different factors of a Profession. It is a behavioral pattern of an individual which reflects while dealing with different situation and other individuals those who directly or indirectly related with profession. Authors also made efforts to explain the actual concept of professional ethics, its need and different accountabilities which comes under the code of professional ethics of teacher.

CODE OF PROFESSIONAL ETHICS IN EDUCATION

It is universally felt that like all other professions, the teaching profession should also have its own Code of Professional Ethics which indeed is a pre-requisite to ensure its dignity and integrity. It is also significant that the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act, 2009 entrusts teachers with some onerous professional responsibilities to be internalized by them in the performance of their duties. Accordingly, it is considered necessary that the Code of Professional Ethics be evolved and adopted by the teaching community. For the purpose of this Code, the term “teacher” covers all school teachers, whether in government or private schools, on full-time or part-time basis, at the elementary and secondary levels and the teachers holding administrative and supervisory positions The Code of Professional Ethics for teachers provides a framework of principles to guide them in discharging their obligations towards students, parents, colleagues and community. Increased awareness of the ethical principles governing the teaching profession is essential to ensure ‘professionalism’ among teachers.The National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) has developed a Code of Professional Ethics for school teachers on the recommendations of a Committee constituted for the purpose under the Chairmanship of Prof. A.K. Sharma, former Director, NCERT. The Code provides a framework of principles that would guide teachers in discharging their obligations towards students, parents and other stakeholders.

Professional Ethics in Teaching Community: Strategies to Promote Ethical Standards-A Global Concern

Teaching is a sacred profession. It is rather a sacred service than a profession. Any profession demands for its worthy existence, acceptance and enforcement of code of ethics which make the profession self regulating, self governing and self satisfying. Teacher professional ethics mean a set of dignified principles put into practice by the Teachers. They are the valuable tactics that are exhibited and enforced by Teachers in relation to the students, colleagues, community and to oneself, to produce a profound effect on strategy of education.

The progress of a country depends upon the quality of its teachers and for this reason teaching is the noblest amongst all professions and is called the people's profession. The irony of fate, however is that teaching is deemed to be the most unattractive profession and the teacher no longer occupies an honorable position in the society. In order to face the challenges of the dynamic world, destructing of teacher preparation process is highly essential for professionalism and empowerment of the teachers. Resurgence of a country come through the flood gates of value-oriented education. Professional Ethics makes explicit the teacher's role and defines his rights and duties along with the knowledge of what is involved in his virtuous conduct. The Code of Professional Ethics for teachers provides a framework of principles to guide them in discharging their obligations towards students, parents, colleagues and community. Increased awareness of the ethical principles governing the teaching profession is essential to ensure 'professionalism' among teachers. This would require value oriented education for teachers so that the teachers we prepare are ethical, who know professional ethics for their own development as well as for guiding the youngsters and making the future of nation. This paper emphasises the need of inculcation professional ethics in teacher training programs.

Code of Ethics for the Teaching Profession: Educators’ Perceptions and Opinions

ABSTRACT: The present research aimed to analyze the perceptions and opinions about the existence of a code of ethics for the teaching profession among the following groups: teacher educators, Basic Education teachers, and undergraduate students. The data were collected through a digital form filled out by the groups. The analysis indicated the need for an instrument that guides the actions of teachers when facing thorny situations, which are not discussed during study but are often part of everyday school life. Conversely, a concern was raised over who would develop this instrument and how it would be used by institutions. The results point to the demand of undergraduates, teachers, and teacher educators for educational processes that emphasize aspects of guidance, reflection, and decision-making in day-to-day school situations. Code of Ethics for Teachers: A Dilemma

Teacher training courses have been prioritizing the cognitive domain at the expense of the affective domain with a strong ethical component characteristic of the academic routine. Ethical dilemmas faced in the teaching practice inspired us to bring an overview of aspects addressed by the literature and some codes of ethics for teachers. Adopting these codes or not is a controversial issue. This text aims to bring up this controversy as a contribution to the professionalization of educators, so that they are able to anticipate ethical dilemmas situation at school, in its complexity and contradiction, giving them a better forwarding. Thus, it is expected that future teachers will be prepared to face these situations in students, colleagues and institutions relationship. Ethics & Teaching: An Empirical Study of Ethical Principles

Ethics is a requirement for human life. It is our means of deciding a course of action. Without it, our actions would be random and aimless. Any flaw in our ethics will reduce our ability to be successful in our endeavours. Ethics in Education are essential as they help run the system smoothly. It sets the standards of what’s acceptable and what’s not hence protecting the interests of both the educators and the learners. Ethics in Education are applicable on both the instructors as well as the students. Research Methodology used in this paper has been based on secondary data and primary data. Secondary data has been collected from various sources like various websites; books; newspapers; professional journals and magazines; and research papers. Primary data has been collected with the help of survey methodology. Just the ideas have been taken from the primary data.

The role and importance of the problem of ethics in education

The purpose of this research; To evaluate the role and importance of the ethical problem in education through the ethical perceptions of primary school teacher candidates. The research was designed in accordance with the phenomenology pattern, one of the qualitative research designs. In this research, 40 teacher candidates studying in primary school teaching departments in various universities in Kazakhstan in the 2021-2022 academic year constitute the study group of the research. Research data were collected through a semi-structured interview form developed by the researchers. As a result of the research; Primary school teacher candidates' views on ethical behaviors in the teaching profession were evaluated, and teachers ranked ethical behaviors as professional commitment, justice/equality, honesty/reliability, objectivity/impartiality, professional development, respect and professionalism. The pre-service teachers who participated in the research described discrimination, professional abuse, bribery, indiscipline and irresponsibility as unethical behaviors. In addition, the majority of teacher candidates participating in the research stated that the role of ethical behavior in the teaching profession is very effective. It is necessary to increase the courses taken by pre-service teachers during their education on professional ethics, and the course content should be developed in order to ensure their development.
