Hybrid Wind-Solar power system
In today’s world the rising rate of consumption and the price of fossil fuels and the environmental problems caused by the conventional power generation draw worldwide attention to renewable energy technologies. In fact, renewable energy systems are pollution free, takes low cost and less gestation period, user and social friendly. However, renewable power unit based on single source (wind or solar source) may not be effective in terms of cost, efficiency and reliability. A viable alternative solution is by combining these different renewable energy sources to form a hybrid energy system. This paper deals with the detailed of a hybrid model of a solar / wind and fuel cell in Simulink. An efficient hybrid model is developed and compared with hybrid model which is using battery as its storage system instead of fuel cells. In this paper, power output from the combination of solar and wind power is compared and results are shown.
The Design Steps of a Hybrid Energy System
In this paper the design stages of a mixed photovoltaic-wind energy system, supplied with solar and wind energy was discussed. First, general information about the employed wind turbines and solar panels is given and their basic characteristics are addressed. Then, essential information for the system setup and measurements was given. The system setup, operation of the system, the ways to store energy and how energy is consumed were described and the results were interpreted. This study serves as a background for the experimental studies in the future.
Design, Sizing and Optimization of a Solar- Wind Hybrid Power System
Journal of Energy Research and Reviews
Design, sizing and optimization of a solar-wind hybrid power system was carried out to determine its economic feasibility using Hybrid optimized model for electric renewable (HOMER) software aimed at selecting the most feasible configuration based on the net present cost to meet the load demand of 425 W for the appliances in a departmental office at Joseph Sarwuan Tarka University, Makurdi. The simulation results were used to develop a working prototype by sizing the four major components: the solar panels (350 W), a wind turbine (100 W), 2 battery systems of 12 V/200Ah and a charge controller (35.4 A) to regulate battery charging. The efficiencies of the wind turbine, PV solar panels and the inverter system were 48, 29.2 and 50 % respectively. The contribution of PV was 98 % and that of the wind turbine was 2 % due to low average wind speed (1.96 m/s at 15 m) from February to April. The results showed that solar energy contributed more to the charging of the inverter than the wind ...
Experimental Study on Wind-Solar Renewable Energy Hybridsystem
Journal of industrial pollution control, 2018
Renewable Energy Hybrid System (REHS) is a system that utilizes two sources or more of renewable energy. As an advantage, it will assist in producing continuous sources of energy and utilizing one source in the absence of other source(s). The aim of this research is to enhance the energy output of renewable energy system which is the wind turbine by incorporating solar panels. Other objective is to investigate the effect of solar panels distribution on the total power output of the new created hybrid system by investigating two cases. First, by using one large solar panel that is connected to the hybrid controller with the wind turbine. Second, by using smaller size solar panels that have an equivalent area to the panel used in the first case. Results showed that the power output of the wind turbine is improved when connected to the solar panel, and a continuous power output is achieved. One big solar panel has better effect in improving the power output than using smaller size sola...
Hybrid Powerplant Using Solar and Wind Energy
MATEC Web of Conferences
Solar and wind energy sources can be used sustainably without worrying about running out. However, both energy sources have a weakness, namely in the rainy or cloudy season the energy produced is not large. So that an alternative is sought, namely by combining them which is usually called a hybrid system. The purpose of developing hybrid technology here is that if one energy source cannot produce energy, the other energy source will replace it as an energy supplier to the load. In the hybrid system, the utilization of solar energy uses a solar cell, while for the utilization of wind energy it uses a turbine generator. From the results of the study, it can be seen that the electrical energy produced by solar power plants is much greater than the electrical energy produced by wind power plants. In addition, solar power plants are still able to produce electrical energy, even though the solar cell is not exposed to sunlight. Meanwhile, in wind power plants, the electrical energy produce...
