High School Economic Education in Eastern Europe: Findings from Five Nations

This paper reports a snapshot of the current state of high school economic education in five Eastern European nations. The findings of this paper indicate that the 20-item TEL that was developed and translated for use in this project is a reliable instrument for use in high school classrooms in five different countries. The findings of this paper also indicate that the National Council on Economic Education's in-service teacher training workshops and its efforts to have workshop participants develop effective teaching materials and techniques are beginning to have a positive influence on student test performance in the countries where they have been used most extensively.

TOWARDS AN ECONOMICS HIGHER EDUCATION BASED ON LEARNING EXPERIENCES

The customization of education becomes an obvious option for total quality management-oriented universities, and, therefore, flexible and rapid reactions are expected from universities. In response, universities become more learning outcome - focused as well as more focused on the development of competencies recognized by employers. This paper aims at presenting an integrating perspective on the student-centred-learning concept as an accumulation of practices and learning experiences that determine an individual’s professional development and shape his personality. The research explores the best practices achieved through education based on learning outcomes and student-centred economic faculties, within eight universities in Romania. The research was conducted by consulting the websites of the universities and faculties included in the analysis. The review standard for each faculty included: the type and content of the programs of study offered in the three stages of education, organization and methods of disseminating research results, and services provided to students, including extracurricular activities. The results of the analysis confirm that the surveyed universities have dedicated and focused their efforts to reorganize the curricula according to the requirements of the labor market, and increase the overall quality of education. However, student-centred learning practices are dissipated and quite restricted in the study programs. As a result of this analysis, the paper presents various measures that universities may take into consideration in order to ensure the spread of active learning practices in all educational programs.

In the wake of the economic crisis, a question arises increasingly often: what is the role of economic culture in overcoming the crisis? Since the mid-2000s, leaders of developed countries have kept pointing out that fostering political and economic education is a driver of growth and development. Curricula are being overhauled; new modules are appearing in the study programmes of secondary schools, colleges, and university-level undergraduate courses; significant curriculum developments have been launched at the world's leading universities in the last few years. Hungarian higher education cannot exclude itself from this process.

Importance of Economic Education for Job Mobility of Graduates from Non-Economic Faculties

The aim of the paper is to establish the perceived needs of graduates from non-economic study programmes concerning the option of extending their economics knowledge and business skills. The topic discussed in the paper is a response to a major economic and social problem (not only in the Slovak Republic) of unemployment of graduates from higher education institutions. A theoretical part of the paper deals with the explanation of basic concepts and relations in the areas of managing change in education, job mobility and career and education, while paying attention mainly to job mobility, which is viewed as one of the types of labour mobility (job mobility and geographical mobility). Macroeconomics and active methodologies in higher education: A possible pairing and a possible binomial

This article presents an experience of teaching innovation based on the application of active methodologies in economics and business education at the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU). The proposal builds on a competency teaching approach, whose objectives were to verify the effectiveness of these methodologies in the area of economics in order to reconnect the university with its social environment and enhance the competency and student-learning values. APPLICATION OF INNOVATIVE TEACHING METHODS FOR THE PREPARATION OF STUDENTS OF ECONOMIC SPECIALTIES

The research examined the need for innovative focus of teaching activities on the example of students in higher education. During the study identify the possibility of using the specific innovative teaching methods in the preparation of students of economic specialties. Established that the presence of exclusively traditional educational approaches has led to a mismatch of learning outcomes and knowledge practitioner graduates meet the needs of individual enterprises. Determined the significance of innovative teaching methods in the educational process, the problematic issues that arise in connection with the transformation processes in the formation of existing innovative technologies in education and the possibility of their use in the preparation of students of economic specialties.
