Gauge-Singlet Vector-Like Fermion Dark Matter, LHC Diphoton Rate, and Direct Detection
Advances in High Energy Physics
We study a gauge-singlet vector-like fermion hidden sector dark matter model, in which the communication between the dark matter and the visible standard model sector is via the Higgs-portal scalar-Higgs mixing and also via a hidden sector scalar with loop-level couplings to two gluons and also to two hypercharge gauge bosons induced by a vector-like quark. We find that the Higgs-portal possibility is stringently constrained to be small by the recent LHC di-Higgs search limits, and the loop induced couplings are important to include. In the model parameter space, we present the dark matter relic density, the dark-matter-nucleon direct detection scattering cross section, the LHC diphoton rate from gluon-gluon fusion, and the theoretical upper bounds on the fermion-scalar couplings from perturbative unitarity.
Constraining dark sectors at colliders: Beyond the effective theory approach
Physical Review D, 2015
We outline and investigate a set of benchmark simplified models with the aim of providing a minimal simple framework for an interpretation of the existing and forthcoming searches of dark matter particles at the LHC. The simplified models we consider provide microscopic QFT descriptions of interactions between the Standard Model partons and the dark sector particles mediated by the four basic types of messenger fields: scalar, pseudo-scalar, vector or axial-vector. Our benchmark models are characterised by four to five parameters, including the mediator mass and width, the dark matter mass and an effective coupling(s). In the gluon fusion production channel we resolve the top-quark in the loop and compute full top-mass effects for scalar and pseudo-scalar messengers. We show the LHC limits and reach at 8 and 14 TeV for models with all four messenger types. We also outline the complementarity of direct detection, indirect detection and LHC bounds for dark matter searches. Finally, we investigate the effects which arise from extending the simplified model to include potential new physics contributions in production. Using the scalar mediator as an example we study the impact of heavy new physics loops which interfere with the top mediated loops. Our computations are performed within the MCFM framework and we provide fully flexible public Monte Carlo implementation. arXiv:1411.0535v2 [hep-ph] 5 Feb 2015 2 the recent Higgs discovery and assumes that the coupling strength of the new scalars to Standard Model fermions is proportional to their SM Yukawa couplings.
Limiting heavy-quark and gluonphilic real dark matter
Physical Review D
We investigate the phenomenological viability of real spin half, zero and one dark matter candidates, which interact predominantly with third generation heavy quarks and gluons via the twentyeight gauge invariant higher dimensional effective operators. The corresponding Wilson coefficients are constrained one at a time from the relic density Ω DM h 2 ≈ 0.1198. Their contributions to the thermal averaged annihilation cross-sections are shown to be consistent with the FermiLAT and H.E.S.S. experiments' projected upper bound on the annihilation cross-section in the bb mode. The tree-level gluon-philic and one-loop induced heavy-quark-philic DM-nucleon direct-detection cross-sections are analysed. The non-observation of any excess over expected background in the case of recoiled Xe-nucleus events for spin-independent DM-nucleus scattering in XENON-1T sets the upper limits on the eighteen Wilson coefficients. Our analysis validates the real DM candidates for the large range of accessible mass spectrum below 2 TeV for all but one interaction induced by the said operators.
Majorana dark matter cross sections with nucleons at high energies
Physical Review D, 2012
Non-relativistic dark matter scattering with nucleons is constrained by direct detection experiments. We use the XENON constraints on the spin-independent and spin-dependent cross section for dark matter scattering with nucleons to constrain a hypothetical Majorana fermionic dark matter particle's couplings to the Higgs boson and Z boson. In the procedure we illustrate the change in the dark matter nucleon cross section as one goes from non-relativistic, coherent scattering to relativistic, incoherent scattering. While the Z invisible decay width excludes directly couplings of dark matter to ordinary matter, by introducing a light Z ′ portal to the dark sector, a relatively large dark matter nucleon cross section can be preserved even with accelerator experiment constraints for dark matter with a mass of ∼ 10 GeV.
Heavy-quark and Gluon-philic Real Dark Matter
2021
We explore the phenomenological viability of the real spin half, zero and one dark matter candidates which primarily interact with the third generation heavy-quarks and gluons through the twenty-two gauge invariant higher dimensional effective operators. The lower-limits on the corresponding Wilson coefficients are obtained from the relic density constraint ΩDMh2 ≈ 0.1198 and their contributions to the thermal averaged annihilation cross-sections are found to be consistent with the predicted upper bound on the annihilation cross-section in the b b̄ mode from FermiLAT and H.E.S.S. experiments. The tree-level gluon-philic and one-loop induced heavy-quark-philic DM nucleon direct-detection cross-sections are analysed. The non-observation of at least one recoiled Xe nucleus event for spin-independent DM-nucleus scattering in XENON-1T sets the upper limits on the eighteen Wilson coefficients. Our analysis validates the real DM candidates for the large range of accessible mass spectrum be...
Results are presented from a search for new physics in the final state containing a photon (γ) and missing transverse energy (E T / ). The data correspond to an integrated luminosity of 5.0 fb −1 collected in pp collisions at √ s = 7 TeV by the CMS experiment. The observed event yield agrees with standard-model expectations for the γ + E T / events. Using models for production of dark-matter particles (χ), we set 90% confidence level (CL) upper limits of 13.6-15.4 fb on χ production in the γ + E T / state. These provide the most sensitive upper limits for spin-dependent χ-nucleon scattering for χ masses (M χ ) between 1 and 100 GeV. For spin-independent contributions, the present limits are extended to M χ < 3.5 GeV. For models with 3-6 large extra dimensions, our data exclude extra-dimensional Planck scales between 1.65 and 1.71 TeV at 95% CL.
Constraining 3-3-1 Models at the LHC and Future Hadron Colliders
2022
In this work, we derive lower mass bounds on the Z gauge boson based on the dilepton data from LHC with 13 TeV of center-of-mass energy, and forecast the sensitivity of the High-Luminosity-LHC with L = 3000f b −1 , the High-Energy LHC with √ s = 27 TeV, and also at the Future Circular Collider with √ s = 100 TeV. We take into account the presence of exotic and invisible decays of the Z gauge boson to find a more conservative and robust limit, different from previous studies. We investigate the impact of these new decays channels for several benchmark models in the scope of two different 3-3-1 models. We found that in the most constraining cases, LHC with 139f b −1 can impose m Z > 4 TeV. Moreover, we forecast HL-LHC, HE-LHC, and FCC bounds that yield m Z > 5.8 TeV, m Z > 9.9 TeV, and m Z > 27 TeV, respectively. Lastly, put our findings into perspective with dark matter searches to show the region of parameter space where a dark matter candidate with the right relic density is possible.
Constraining Inert Triplet dark matter by the LHC and FermiLAT
Journal of Cosmology and Astroparticle Physics, 2014
We study collider phenomenology of inert triplet scalar dark matter at the LHC. We discuss possible decay of Higgs boson to dark matter candidate and apply current experimental data for invisible Higgs decay and R γγ to constrain parameter space of our model. We also investigate constraints on dark matter coming from forthcoming measurement, R Zγ and mono-Higgs production. We analytically calculate the annihilation cross section of dark matter candidate into 2γ and Zγ and then use FermiLAT data to put constraints on parameter space of Inert Triplet Model. We found that this limit can be stronger than the constraints provided by LUX experiment for low mass DM.
