M.Russo, Il palinsesto del paesaggio come progetto del territorio

Across the Stones, 2019

The concept of "landscape", within its semantic complexity between nature and artifice, leads to an in depth and non-conventional reflection for the urban and territorial contemporary project. All at once, the landscape is heritage, eco-system complexity, site-specificity of the urban realm. The breadth of this definition is related to the interdisciplinarity of the landscape project and its capability to works at different scales. It leads to a socio-cultural reading of the most contradictory phenomena of the urban transformation. Moreover, it defines the tools of a potential structure, and outlines morphologies aiming to produce a new habitable space in urban areas. By the same token, the concept of "periphery" itself may appears sterile, outdated and devoid of any transformative future vision, if not related to the framework of the "new urban question" promoting cultural and collective values. Instead, the" peri-urban" territory draws the way for an ecological vision as a palimpsest of historical and cultural traces. This dialectic with the territory-concived as landscape project- triggers a prospective reactivation of structural and spatial relationships which are able to think at the current fragmented condition in terms of network flows, fluid and vibrant spaces, and connective tissue of resources for a new "urban quality". This polyvalent meaning is similar to the creative process of the landscape photography which conceptually nullifies the figure-background dyad. In this respect, it revaluates priorities and autonomies of possible interpretations basing on a overall view.

Geografie dell'Emilia Romagna nel Novecento

2016

The paper look inside the great changes occurred in the geography of Emilia Romagna region, during the Twentieth Century. It is a synthetic profile of different aspects, because most of the changes produced modifications on the landscape, and then on the geographies of the area. Varied sources are used, like documents, data, cartographic and iconographic materials, at the regional scale. The first two chapters deals with the land and infrastructure, whose networks have helped to strengthen the human geography of the region, based on the axis of the Via Emilia. The third chapter presents some indicators on population, its geographical distribution, its social and economic characteristics, showing the momentous changes that have occurred in the twentieth century. The fourth and fifth chapter attempt to get the level investigation into rural areas and urban contexts, using some indicators and iconographic materials. The sixth part deals with the contemporary environmental challenges, r...

RI-IMMAGINA LA MAPPA (Marciapiedi - Alberi - Parcheggi - Piani terra - Aree civiche). Il caso di San Basilio a Roma.

CITTA' PUBBLICA / PAESAGGI COMUNI. MATERIALI PER IL PROGETTO DEGLI SPAZI APERTI DEI QUARTIERI ERP, 2013

For Venice Biennale 2014 Rem Koolhaas will look at Fundamentals, basic unavoidable architectural categories structuring any living space. It sounds as a warning to re-establish a straight relationship to tectonic components in design and building processes. MAPPA, which stands for Sidewalks+Trees+Parking+Ground Floors+Civic Areas - five Fundamentals in urban design - is a research project exploring both theoretically and experimentally a notion of “urban ecology” based on smart recycling of material and cultural resources coming from the self-organised city. MAPPA defines an extensive, multiscalar program of public space regeneration for the city of Rome, grasping from local emergent and informal behaviors in order to assign new identities. It combines a sensibilization campaign, aiming at temporary mutation on space perception and urban congestion, together with a progressive yet radical program of ecological corridors generating a highly interconnected metropolitan network.

Il Paesaggio Come Vocazione: Una Disamina Nella Strategia Nazionale Per Le Aree Interne in Italia

2021

Landscape as vocation: an exploration of the development strategies of some Italian inner areas . – Going beyond a limiting approach of the protection of landscape as constraining, this might be interpreted as an asset for development. Building on this background, this contribution, analyzing the local development strategies produced by some of the project areas included in the Italian National Strategy for Inner Areas, investigates to what extent landscape is interpreted as a driver for development, or as vocation, in places where its preservation and protection are a matter of paramount importance.
