Effects of moringa leaf extract on growth and yield of maize

Progressive Agriculture, 2016

The present study was conducted in the Soil Science Field Laboratory at Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh during November 2014 to April 2015 to study the effect of moringa leaf extract on growth and yield of maize. The experiment comprised of five treatments viz., T1 (control), T2 (water sprayed at every 2 weeks, starting from 2 weeks after emergence), T3 (moringa leaf extract sprayed at 2 weeks after emergence), T4 (moringa leaf extract sprayed at 2 and 4 weeks after emergence) and T5 (moringa leaf extract sprayed at 2 weeks after emergence and at every 2 weeks thereafter). The experiment was laid out in a Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with 3 replications. Application of moringa leaf extract at 2 weeks after emergence and at every 2 weeks thereafter (T5) significantly increased growth parameters like plant height, shoot length, fresh weight and dry weight of shoot, and yield components like number of grains cob-1, 100-grain weight, grain weight plant-1. The h...

Effects of Moringa olifera leaf extracts on growth and productivity of three leguminous crops

LEGUME RESEARCH - AN INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL

Different concentrations of Moringa leaf extract were used to evaluate their effects on three leguminous crops (Alfalfa and Clitoria as forage crops and Mung bean as grain legume) Three independent experiments were carried out at King Abdulaziz University Experimental Station in Makkah province during 2015 and 2016. Treatments consisted of four concentrations of Moringa leaf extract (C1=1ml of juice+10 ml of distilled water, C2=1ml of juice+20ml of distilled water, C3=1ml of juice+30 ml of distilled water and C4=1ml of juice+40 ml of distilled water) and only distilled water as control. Results showed that the higher concentration C1 contained the highest concentrations of inorganic elements and growth hormones compared to the other concentrations. Thisæ in turnæ was reflected in significantly higher growth and forage yields of both alfalfa and clitoria and significantly higher growth and grain yield of mung bean. The highest concentration C1 increased number of pods, pod dry weight...

Effect of Moringa Extract on Growth and Yield of Tomato

2012

Trials were carried out to evaluate the effect of <em>Moringa oleifera</em> leaf extract as a growth hormone on growth and yield of tomato (<em>Lycopersicon esculentum L</em> var. Rodade).<br> In the greenhouse, five treatments were used: the control, where only water was added (M0), second control where ethanol 80 % was added (ME), moringa extract applied once at 2 weeks from emergence (M1), moringa extract applied at 2 and 4 weeks from emergence (M2), and moringa extract applied every 2 weeks to maturity, starting from two weeks from germination (M3).The same treatments were adopted in the field except the ME which was considered unnecessary after observing the results of the greenhouse experiment. Results showed that moringa extract increased growth and yield of tomato in both greenhouse and field. Moringa extract significantly increased above ground dry matter yield (DM), root dry matter weight and plant height for the crop. Yields obtained at MI, M...

Growth promoting potential of fresh and stored Moringa oleifera leaf extracts in improving seedling vigor, growth and productivity of wheat crop

Environmental science and pollution research international, 2017

Wheat is staple food of region, as it contributes 60% of daily caloric intake, but its delayed sowing reduces yield due to short life span. Moringa leaf extract (MLE) is considered to improve growth and development of field crops. Study comprised of two experiments. First experiment, freshly extracted MLE and in combination with growth-promoting substances were stored at two temperature regimes. Chemical analysis, after 1, 2, and 3 months' storage period, showed that phenolics and ascorbic acid concentrations decreased with increasing storage period. Fresh extracts improved speed and spread of emergence and seedling vigor. Effectiveness of MLE in terms of phenolics and ascorbate concentrations was highest up to 1 month which decreased with prolonged storage. Growth enhancing potential of MLE also reduced with increasing storage duration. Under field conditions, the bio-efficacy of these fresh and stored MLE was compared when applied as foliar spray at tillering and booting stage...

Effect of Moringa olifera Leaf Extract on Growth and Productivity of Three Cereal Forages

Journal of Agricultural Science

Moringa olifera leaf extract at different concentrations were used to evaluate their effects on three cereal forages (Sorghum bicolor L. Moench, Penisetum typhoideum Rich and Sorghum Sudanese) grown under stress environment of soil and water salinity in an arid environment. Three independent experiments carried out at King Abdulaziz University Experimental Station, Makkah province during 2015 and 2016. Treatments consisted of four concentrations of Moringa olifera leaf extract: (C1 = 1 ml of juice + 10 ml of distilled water ,C2 = 1 ml of juice + 20 ml of distilled water, C3 = 1 ml of juice + 30 ml of distilled water and C4 = 1 ml of juice + 40 ml of distilled water in addition to distilled water alone as a control). Results showed that the higher concentration C1 contained the highest amount of inorganic elements and growth hormones compared to other concentrations. This in turn reflected in significant higher growth and forage yields of the three forage crops tested. Significant in...
