Cardiovascular disease in India has quadrupled in the last 40 years and WHO estimates that by 2020 close to 60 percent of cardiac patients worldwide will be Indian. The established risk factors of cardiovascular disease include lack of exercise, poor diet, and smoking. The emerging field of environmental cardiology addresses exposures to chemicals and other environmental substances that also have a profound impact on heart health.
